Warriors down Penn State-Mont Alto, 54-48

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – First, first-year Hayden Pardoe (Mill Hall, Pa./ Central Mountain) tracked down a rebound after a blocked shot and seconds later, he took a pass in the right corner from senior Steven Hamilton (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville Area) and he drilled a 3-pointer to seal a 54-48 win for the Lycoming College men's basketball team over Penn St.-Mont Alto on Saturday, Nov. 11 at Lamade Gymnasium to wrap up the Crosstown Challenge.
 
Pardoe finished with 17 points and five rebounds and Hamilton added 19 points, four rebounds, four assists, two steals and two blocks to lead the way for Lycoming (2-1 overall). Sophomore Isaiah Valentine (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg Area) added 12 points and nine rebounds, as he claimed the team's slot on the all-tournament team.
 
The Warriors led by 16 with 14:01 remaining after a pair of free throws from Hamilton, but the Nittany Lions (1-3 overall) went on a 21-6 run over the next nine minutes, closing within one with five minutes left before Valentine put back his own jumper to lead, 47-44. Pardoe added a layup to make it a five-point game, but Veron Talla scored a pair of field goals to make it a one-point game with 2:05 left, setting up Pardoe's big shot. Senior Brendon Blackson (Laurel, Md./ Laurel) topped it off with good free throws, advancing the score to 54-48.
 
Lycoming opened the game on a 13-1 run before the Lions answered with a 13-5 run to close within four halfway through the half and they were within three with 3:19 left before a Valentine 3-pointer started an eight-point run to close the half, capped by a midcourt trey from Hamilton at the buzzer.
 
Veron Talla finished with 20 points, nine rebounds, three steals and two blocks and Tevin Venson added 14 points, six rebounds and a steal for the Lions to earn all-tournament team honors.
 
The Warriors will be back in action Wednesday, Nov. 15, when they head to Haverford College for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
