WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Senior Brendon Blackson (Laurel, Md./Laurel) scored 11 points and senior Steven Hamilton (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville Area) added 10 to lead the Lycoming College men's basketball team, which fell to 2023 NCAA Division III Second Round team Montclair State, 85-49, to open the Crosstown Challenge on Friday evening, Nov. 9, at Lamade Gym.

Sophomore J.J. Beagle (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area), sophomore Isaiah Valentine (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg Area) and junior Ivan Komitski (Sofia, Bulgaria/Lee Academy) each had five rebounds, and first-year J.T. Kirbie (Spring, Texas/Klein Cain) added two assists. Senior Mavin James (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) led the Warriors (1-1 overall) with two steals.

Montclair State (1-0 overall) shot 51 percent from the field (34-of-67) and scored 30 points off 18 Warriors' turnovers, pressing throughout the game. Mike Jackson led the team with 20 points and five rebounds and Kunga Tsering added 10 points.

The Red Hawks started the game with 11 straight points and pushed the lead to 22 late in the half before Komitski hit a hook shot and first-year Misaias Herrera (Katy, Texas/Katy Jordan) hit a layup to cut the deficit to 18 at the break. In the second half, a 13-point run by Montclair State midway through the half put the game out of reach.

Kirbie (3), first-year Ethan Bomgardner (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg Area) (4), and first-year Connor Shanahan (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown East) (2) each scored the first points of their careers for the Warriors, while sophomore Colin Seedor (Coal Township, Pa./Shamokin Area) (2) and junior Jack McGaha (New Market, Md./Oakdale) (3) scored their first points of the year.
