Preston scores fifth of season at King’s

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Sophomore Kelly Preston (Boonton, N.J./Mountain Lakes) tipped a shot in to become the second Lycoming College field hockey player to reach five goals this season, as Lycoming fell to King's College, 3-1, in non-conference action at McCarthy Stadium on Wednesday night, Oct. 4.

The Warriors (4-6 overall) won their second corner of the second quarter just over 80 seconds into the period and played it to perfection, as sophomore Victoria Burton (Marietta, Pa./Donegal) took the corner pass and left it off quickly for sophomore Katie Loughran (Ottsville, Pa./Pennridge), who delivered a shot that Preston tipped past the keeper to tie the game at one.

Preston joins sophomore Autumn Shahan (Wilmington, Del./Wilmington Charter) for the team lead with five goals and Loughran is also tied for the team lead with two assists. The goal also marked the team's 20th of the season, the first time since the 1987 team had a school-record 24 goals that the Warriors reached the milestone.

King's (3-9 overall) took the lead just over a minute later, though, and despite four more corners and six more shots from the Warriors in the second quarter, they couldn't find the back of the cage again. King's Emma Clark, who finished with two goals and an assist, also scored in the closing minutes of the third quarter.

Grace Venis had three saves in net for the Monarchs. Sophomore Isabella Bobé (York Springs, Pa./Bermudian Springs) had one save for the Warriors.

The Warriors get back on the field on Saturday, Oct. 7, when they head to Moravian University for a 1 p.m. Landmark Conference match.
