HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Sophomore
Kelly Preston (Boonton, N.J./Mountain Lakes) scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season, sparking a late rally as the Lycoming College field hockey team scored twice in the last 2:31, but fell to Juniata College, 6-2, in Landmark Conference action on Wednesday night, Oct. 11, at Knox Stadium.
Â
Preston tipped in her sixth goal, when sophomore
Katie Loughran (Ottsville, Pa./Pennridge) got the ball off a penalty corner and fired it into a scrum, where Preston caught it for the score with 2:31 remaining. Just over two minutes later, the Warriors drew another penalty corner with time running down, Loughran poked a pass over to junior
Halie Woodring (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) at the top of the circle and Woodring fired it past the keeper.
Â
The two goals give Lycoming (4-7 overall, 0-2 Landmark) 22 goals this year, just two off the school record of 24 set by the 1987 team.
Â
Sydney Witter had a goal and two assists to lead the Eagles (4-8 overall, 1-3 Landmark) and Aimee Buffington had a goal and an assist, as Juniata scored three times in the first quarter and two times in the second to post the win.
Â
Sophomore goalkeeper
Isabella Bobé (York Springs, Pa./Bermudian Springs) stopped 12 shots, as Juniata took 20 in the game. Brittany McMullen and Amanda Puza combined to make one stop for Juniata.
Â
The Warriors are back on the field on Saturday, Oct. 14, when they host Catholic University in Landmark Conference action at 1 p.m. at UPMC Field.
