Yoh, Wetzel lead Warriors at Misericordia

DALLAS, Pa. – Sophomores Ashley Yoh (Myerstown, Pa./Eastern Lebanon County) and Mya Wetzel (Frackville, Pa./North Schuylkill) each finished with 11 points to lead the Lycoming College women's basketball team, which fell to Misericordia University, 58-50, in MAC Freedom action on Wednesday, Jan. 18, at the Anderson Sports Center.

Yoh posted her eighth double-digit scoring effort of the season, finishing with 11 points, seven rebounds and an assist. Wetzel's 11 points accounted for her third effort in double figures, adding two rebounds and two assists. Junior Emily Lockard (Benton, Pa./Benton) added nine points, four rebounds and an assist and sophomore Meghan Dufner (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills Regional) posted eight points, a team-leading nine rebounds, an assist, and two steals.

The Cougars (12-5 overall, 5-3 MAC Freedom) scored the first two points before Yoh's jumper tied the game, the first of five ties through the first half. Wetzel hit for a three-pointer with sophomore Alicia Goldenziel (Moscow, Pa./North Pocono) following right behind her with another jumper to give the Warriors (5-12 overall, 1-7 MAC Freedom) their first lead of the game. Three points from Dufner and a free-throw from Lockard tied the game at 11 at the end of the first quarter.

Layups from Lockard and Goldenziel early in the second quarter kept the game close before Misericordia took a 22-15 lead into the break. In the third quarter the Warriors posted 18 points, led by Yoh and senior Kenzie Reed (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley), who each had four points. Reed's steal at 5:41 gave Wetzel the opportunity for a 3-point shot to bring the score within three points at 29-26. With 24 seconds remaining in the quarter, Reed putback a second-chance layup to stay within six, but the Cougars scored the next 10 points to take control of the game.

Yoh and Wetzel each posted five in the final 10 minutes, with Yoh scoring on possessions in the first six minutes. Wetzel's five came in the final two minutes as she hit her third three-pointer and added two free throws. The Warriors closed within single digits in the final 30 seconds, but one final layup fell off the rim and Misericordia was able to dribble out the clock.

Three Cougars hit double figures, with Gianna Delfino leading the team with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Melina Santacroce had 11 points and 11 rebounds and Morgan Haefele posted 10 points and five rebounds.

The Warriors return to the court on Saturday, Jan. 21, when they travel to Arcadia University to start the second half of MAC Freedom play at 1 p.m. in Glenside, Pa. The men will follow at 3 p.m.
