MADISON, N.J. – In their second outing at the Drew Fall Festival, the Lycoming College field hockey team got on the scoreboard as first-year
Katie Loughran (Ottsville, Pa./Pennridge) snagged the Warriors' first goal in 30 years, but two fourth-quarter goals from Drew University helped lift it to a 3-1 win on Saturday, Sept. 3, at Ranger Stadium.
Loughran's game-tying goal came 22 seconds into the last quarter after Loughran got play going after a penalty corner. She tipped-in a pass from the left post off the corner pass from first-year
Victoria Burton (Marietta, Pa./Donegal) for the Warriors (0-2 overall). It was Lycoming's first goal as a reestablished program and the team's first score since Crissy Simpson scored in a 2-1 loss to Misericordia on Oct. 17, 1992.
The Warriors' defense, along with first-year netminder
Autumn Shahan (Wilmington, Del./Wilmington Charter), held the Rangers (1-1 overall) scoreless for more than 20 minutes until Emma Bryer opened the scoring for the Rangers in the second quarter before Alexa Thomas scored the last two goals in the fourth quarter.
Shahan made six saves before she was relieved by fellow netminder first-year
Isabella Bobé (York Springs, Pa./Bermudian Springs), who made an additional four saves. The Rangers' Olyvia Jackson made two saves on six shots.
The Warriors return to the field for their home opener on Tuesday, Sept. 6, when they host Houghton University for a 6 p.m. start at UPMC Field.
