Russell, Eiswerth help Warriors split at FDU

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MADISON, N.J. – Sophomore Kylie Russell (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore Area) pitched five shutout innings and first-year Avery Eiswerth (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) had a two-RBI double and picked up the save to lead the Lycoming College softball team to a 3-1 win in game one of a doubleheader with FDU-Florham in MAC Freedom action on Friday, April 15, at McManus Field. The Warriors fell in the second game, 9-7.

Sophomore Kylie Segraves (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) went 5-for-7 with two runs and three RBI to lead the Warriors in the doubleheader, while junior Morgan Wetzel (Mill Hall, Pa./Central Mountain) and Eiswerth each had three hits in the doubleheader.

Eiswerth's two-RBI double came in a three-run second inning, as Lycoming (6-18 overall, 1-9 MAC Freedom) kept FDU-Florham (8-10 overall, 4-4 MAC Freedom) off the scoreboard until the sixth frame in the first-game win.

The Warriors started the rally in the second Segraves reached with a one-out infield single before senior Angie King (Cooperstown, Pa./Maplewood) walked. After both runners moved up a base due to an error, Eiswerth delivered a two-run double to left before scoring on another infield single, this one from junior Kaleigh Kinley (Bellefonte, Pa./Bald Eagle Area).

Russell pitched out of a jam in the fourth, as runners reached second and third with no outs before she got a groundout. An infield single didn't allow runners to move up to load the bases and Russell delivered back-to-back strikeouts to end the inning.

Eiswerth took the circle in the sixth and the Devils rallied with two singles and a walk with two outs, but a strikeout ended the threat. In the seventh, Eiswerth gave up a leadoff single before three fly outs ended the game.

Segraves went 2-for-3 with a run to lead the Warriors, while Wetzel also had a double.

Kristen Tigar and Kacie Centineo each had two of FDU-Florham's six hits.

Russell (1-4) pitched the first five innings, allowing three hits and a walk. She struck out four. Eiswerth tossed the last two innings for her first career save, allowing three hits, a walk and a strikeout.

Ciara Hoffman (5-6) took the loss, allowing eight hits and three runs for the Devils.

The Warriors rallied from a seven-run deficit in the seventh inning of the second game to bring up the tying run, but FDU-Florham was able to prevail, 9-7.

Junior Kacee Reitz (Milton, Pa./Milton Area) led off with a double before Russell reached on a bunt single and first-year Rachel Daub (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale Area) reached on an error to load the bases. Wetzel followed with an infield single to drive in a run before Segraves drove in two with a single through the left side to make it 9-5. After a groundout moved runners to second and third, Eiswerth singled up the middle to score two more runs and bring the tying run up, but a popup and groundout ended the threat.

Segraves went 3-for-4 with a run and three RBI to lead the Warriors, while Wetzel went 2-for-4 with two runs and a RBI and Eiswerth went 2-for-4 with two RBI.

The Devils scored a single run in the first and four in the second to take a 5-0 lead before the Warriors responded with two fourth-inning runs. Daub reached on a single up the middle, moved to second on a wild pitch, third on an error and scored on a single by Segraves. A sac fly by King allowed Wetzel, who reached on the error to score.

The Devils scored four more in the sixth to lead, 9-2, and setup the comeback effort by the Warriors.

Reiter went 3-for-4 with three runs and Centineo went 3-for-4 with a run to lead the Devils, while Colleen Conway, Krisen Tigar and Heather Priante each scored twice.

Junior Payton Whary (Coal Township, Pa./Shamokin Area) (3-6) allowed eight hits and four earned runs in the start. Hoffman (6-6) pitched another complete game for the Devils, allowing 12 hits and two earned runs in the win.

The Warriors get back on the field on Tuesday, April 19, when they host Elmira College in a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
