Warriors use early goals to down Keuka, 13-5

KEUKA PARK, N.Y.  – A little March snow couldn't stop the Lycoming College men's lacrosse team, as eight Warriors contributed to the win, led by senior Dominick Massaro (Centereach, N.Y./Sachem North), who notched four goals and a groundball for his first hat trick of the season in a 13-5 win over Keuka College on Wednesday, March 9, at the Jephson Complex.

Massaro also became the 19th player in program history to reach 100 career points with his third tally, now has 72 career goals and 29 assists.

Senior Owen Zimmerman (Stevens, Pa./Cocalico) added another hat trick, posting three goals, an assist, a groundball, and one caused turnover. Juniors Rory Hines (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland), Joe Corozzo (Glen Head, N.Y./North Shore), Zach Anderson (Fogelsville, Pa./Northwestern Lehigh), sophomores Max Anderson (Harrisburg, Pa./Homeschooled), Evan Unser (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown West), and first-year Ryan Farrell (Swedesboro, N.J./Archmere Academy) all notched a goal apiece.

Juniors Andrew Dede (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) and Brody Balasa (Dresher, Pa./Upper Dublin) led the team with six groundballs each out of the team's 40. Both had career-highs of five caused turnovers along with first-year Ryan Ledermann (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas).

Massaro struck first less than two minutes into the game, assisted by Ledermann, but Keuka's Chris Bellanca quickly tied the game at one. That would be the last tie, as the Warriors (2-2 overall) ran away with six goals in the first period, including a hat trick in the period from Massaro. Ryan Farrell picked up his own groundball to score his first goal of the season unassisted at 3:29 while Max Anderson's first goal came unassisted with 13 seconds remaining.

Zimmerman's first goal of the game came with 11:36 left in the second period unassisted. The Warrior defense held the Wolves (1-1 overall) scoreless for the entirety of the third period, with Zach Anderson scoring the final Warrior goal with 10:44 left in the fourth.

The Wolves were led by Seth Spurgeon, who totaled two goals, nine groundballs and won 11 faceoffs. Robert Hill had three groundballs and six caused turnovers.

First-year Ben Franco (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) and junior Sean Sonnie (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) split the goalkeeping, playing 30 minutes each. Franco made three saves for the win and Sonnie added two saves. Keuka's Gavin Britton made six saves.

The Warriors return to the field on Saturday, March 12, when they host McDaniel College at 11 a.m. at UPMC Field.
