Gorman notches 100th career win as Warriors down Drew, 17-15

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Senior Dominick Massaro (Centereach, N.Y./Sachem North) scored a career-high seven goals, including the game-icing one with 1:28 left, to help Lycoming College men's lacrosse head coach Brendan Gorman earn his 100th career win, 17-15, over Drew University, on Wednesday night, March 23, at UPMC Field.

Gorman notched an 89-67 record in nine years at Babson (2010-18) before winning six games in two years at Elmira (2019-20). He now has five wins in his second year with the Warriors.

Massaro led the Warriors (4-4 overall) with seven goals, surpassing his previous career high of five set against Hood in 2019, and it is tied for the 11th-most in program history. Senior Owen Zimmerman (Stevens, Pa./Cocalico) notched five goals, three assists, and four groundballs, first-year Troy Scozzafava (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) finished the night with two goals and three assists. Seniors Markus Sidwell (Glen Burnie, Md./Glen Burnie), Josh Hall (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic), and junior Rory Hines (Cortland, Pa./Cortland) had a goal apiece, with Sidwell adding an assist and four groundballs and Hall also contributed two groundballs.

First-year Ryan Ledermann (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) led the Warriors with seven groundballs and two caused turnovers and junior Brody Balasa (Dresher, Pa./Upper Dublin) posted two caused turnovers.

The Warriors put six on the board in the first quarter as Zimmerman, Massaro, Hines, Scozzafava, and Hall all scored their first goals of the game, with Massaro notching two. Zimmerman and Massaro scored again in the second quarter, joined by Sidwell, whose goal came at 8:19 after Ledermann picked up the groundball. The Warriors put up another five goals in the third before Massaro scored two goals in the final 15 minutes.

The game was tied three times, the last time at six before the Warriors led for the last 39 minutes. Drew closed within a goal five times, the last time with 3:19 left, but Massaro stutter-stepped and fired a sidewinder into the net to guarantee the win with 1:28 left in the game.

Craig Wilkie led the Rangers with seven goals, two assists and a groundball. GJ Nazziola picked up 16 groundballs.

First-year goalkeeper Ben Franco (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) made 14 saves to earn the win. Rangers' goalkeepers Jeremy Gottlieb and Anthony Tufaro combined for six saves.

The Warriors return to the field on Saturday, March 26, when they host Neumann University at 1 p.m. at UPMC Field.
