Zimmerman notches hat trick against Ithaca

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Senior attackman
Owen Zimmerman (Stevens, Pa./Cocalico) notched the first hat trick of the season for the Lycoming College men's lacrosse team, collecting three of the team's four goals, but perennial power, Ithaca College, won the matchup, 23-4, at UPMC Field on Wednesday afternoon, March 2.

Zimmerman posted three goals and one groundball for the Warriors (0-2 overall) to lead the team and first-year
Joey Hoover (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) had the additional goal.

Andrew Dede (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts), first-year
Ryan Ledermann (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas), and sophomore
Jakob Switzer (West Pittston, Pa./Wyoming Area) all led the team with three groundballs each. First-year
Ryan Farrell (Swedesboro, N.J./Archmere Academy) had two.

Matt Daley (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth South), and senior
Dominick Massaro (Centereach, N.Y./Sachem North) each contributed an assist a piece. Dede and Farrell each had two caused turnovers.

Hoover opened the scoring for the Warriors with 12:05 left in the first after the Bombers (2-1 overall) had torn through their first three goals with Massaro on the assist. The Bombers posted their longest run of seven goals between the third and fourth periods of play.

Zimmerman's first goal came with six seconds remaining in the first period. The second goal came with 9:36 left in the second period after Switzer picked up a ground ball from Farrell's faceoff win, with Switzer getting the assist. The final goal of the hat trick came on an extra man opportunity with Daley getting the assist.

The Bombers were led by Conner Brumfield with five goals on six shots. Chase Gulick had seven of the team's 46 groundballs and Kyle Procter had three goals and two assists.

First-year
Ben Franco (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) had nine saves before he was relieved by junior
Sean Sonnie (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson), who made another four stops. Ithaca played three goalkeepers with Ryan LaForty making eight saves for the win.

The Warriors return to the field on Saturday, March 5, when they host Allegheny College at 2 p.m. at UPMC Field.
