Warriors tripped up by Delaware Valley

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Sophomore Allison Butler (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove Area) scored a team-high 12 points to go with eight rebounds to lead the Lycoming College women's basketball team, which fell to Delaware Valley University, 69-61, in MAC Freedom action on Saturday, Feb. 5, at Lamade Gym.
 
Sophomore Emily Lockard (Benton, Pa./Benton Area) posted 10 points, two assists, and a team-leading nine rebounds for the Warriors (5-15 overall, 5-7 MAC Commonwealth). First-year Mya Wetzel (Frackville, Pa./North Schuylkill) added nine points, canning three 3-pointers, to go with three rebounds. Junior Emily Zoscin (Weatherly, Pa./Weatherly Area) led the team with four assists and finished with five points.
 
Lycoming led by as many as 13, taking a 40-27 lead with 7:31 left in the period after a pair of free throws from Butler, but a 14-2 run over the next four and a half minutes brought the Aggies within a point. A jumper from Lockard and another from Zoscin gave Lycoming a five-point lead with 1:27 left in the period and the Warriors led by three heading into the final period.
 
A 3-pointer from Lauren Moretti gave Delaware Valley its first lead of the second half at 52-51. The Warriors took the lead twice more, with Wetzel canning a deep three with 4:50 left to take a 58-57 lead, but the Aggies scored the next eight points to put the game out of reach in the final 40 seconds.
 
The Warriors scored 33 points in the first half, with eight players finding the basket in the first 20 minutes, helping them build a 33-25 lead to take into the locker room.
 
The Aggies opened the game with five points, but the Warriors quickly took over as Wetzel opened for six points on two 3-pointers, and the team shot for eight good free throw attempts. Butler and sophomore Mia Rudalavage (Enyon, Pa./Valley View) combined for a jumper and a layup to end the first 10 minutes.
 
Haley Keenan led the Aggies with 23 points, three assists, and six rebounds and was joined by teammate Moretti with 18 points, two assists and six rebounds.
 
The Warriors return to play on Wednesday, Feb. 9, when they travel to MAC Freedom foe Wilkes University for a 6 p.m. tip-off in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.
