Butler, Warriors down the Knights, 63-36

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Sophomore Allison Butler (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove Area) posted her 11th double-figure scoring game to lead the Lycoming College women's basketball team with 14 points to go with six rebounds and five steals, as a solid-shooting effort from Lycoming led it to a 63-36 MAC Freedom victory over Arcadia University on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 12, at Lamade Gym.
 
Nine Warriors (6-16 overall, 6-8 MAC Freedom) lit up the scoreboard as sophomore Emily Lockard (Benton, Pa./Benton Area) posted her fourth double-figure game with 10 points and a team-leading nine rebounds. Junior Emily Zoscin (Weatherly, Pa./Weatherly Area) added three assists and three points.
 
The Warriors led through the first 20 minutes thanks to a defense that held the Knights scoreless for the first five and a half minutes even. A jumper by first-year Ashley Yoh (Myerstown, Pa./Eastern Lebanon County) opened the scoring for the Warriors.
 
Through the first quarter the Knights were held to only seven points, while sophomore Cathryn Brought (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro Area) led the way with five points after hitting a 3-point shot with 1:50 remaining. Lockard hit two layups, Zoscin scored on a layup and Butler hit a jump shot to give the Warriors the eight-point lead.
 
Through the next quarter, the Warriors continued their onslaught as first-year Colby White (Jermyn, Pa./Lakeland) posted three layups for six points. Butler posted another five points with a layup, jumper, and a free throw, as the Warriors entered the half leading 36-20.
 
Starting the second half the Warriors were held to 10 points with Dufner shooting two layups back-to-back for four before Butler hit a 3-pointer, as Lycoming held the lead in double figures throughout the second half.
 
Seven Warriors scored in the final 10 minutes to help them score 17 points and take their largest lead of the game. At 61-32 with 1:13 remaining, the Warriors held a 29-point differential over the Knights. A layup and two good free throws from first-year Mya Wetzel (Frackville, Pa./North Schuylkill) led the individual scoring, as Butler also hit two more layups for four points. Sophomore Mia Rudalavage (Enyon, Pa./Valley View) closed the game's scoring on a jumper with 23 seconds left.
 
Julia Makowski led the Knights with l1 points, one assist and eight rebounds. Sidney Barrer led with 10 rebounds and two points.
 
The Warriors shot 43 percent (27-of-63) from the field in the game and held Arcadia to just 19 percent (11-of-57). Lycoming had 16 fastbreak points while Arcadia had just two and Lycoming held a 42-12 advantage in the paint.
 
The Warriors return to the court on Tuesday, Feb. 15, for a 6 p.m. tip-off against MAC Freedom opponent Misericordia University at Lamade Gym.
