Booth and Brown set school records on first day at MACS

YORK, Pa. – As the night closed on the first day of the MAC Championships, junior Katherine Brown (Glenside, Pa./Abington) and senior Jake Booth (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) each set school records, as Brown placed fourth in the 50-yard freestyle and Booth placed fifth in the 500-yard freestyle to lead the Lycoming College swimming teams on Thursday, Feb. 10, at the Graham Aquatic Center.

Brown notched a 24.56 to break Cara Zortman's mark of 24.63 set set at the 2020 MAC Championships. She also notched her two best performances of the year in the event, notching a 24.73 in the preliminaries before posting the record time in the finals.

Booth, likewise, posted two record-breaking times en route to the fifth-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle, Lycoming's best finish in the event since John Dougherty took fifth in 2008. Booth broke his own school record set as a first-year of 4:51.53 in the preliminaries, notching a 4:50.44, before rebreaking the record in the finals by posting a 4:50.37.

Sophomore Elisa DiNicola (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock Township) notched a 5:35.52 in the 500-yard freestyle to take 22nd. Senior Devon Kaiser clocked in at 2:23.18 in the 200-yard individual medley to finish 21st.

On the men's side, sophomore Carter Branigan (Lansdown, Pa./Commonwealth Charter) clocked a 2:01.24 in the 200-yard individual medley to finish 11th and junior Matthew Michenfelder took 20th with a time of 2:05.36. In the 50-yard freestyle, first-year Noah Vivian (Barto, Pa./Boyertown) took 15th with a 22.15.

The men's 200-yard medley relay team of Booth, Vivian, junior Will Marcinkowski (Philadelphia, Pa./LaSalle College), and sophomore Eliot Keith (New Ringgold, Pa./Blue Mountain) clocked in at 1:40.11, the fastest time of the season, to take ninth.

The Warriors return to the pool for the second day of the MAC Championships on Friday, Feb. 11, with preliminaries set for 10 a.m. and finals set at 6 p.m.
