Warriors fall short in second-half comeback to Arcadia

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Led by sophomore Ashley Yoh (Myerstown, Pa./Eastern Lebanon County), who fired in 17 points, the Lycoming College women's basketball team came back from 21 down to take a fourth-quarter lead before falling 59-53 to Arcadia University in MAC Freedom action on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 3, at Lamade Gym.
 
Yoh also added two assists and seven rebounds. Junior Emily Lockard (Benton, Pa./Benton) notched nine points, four assists, six rebounds and a steal and first-year Kami Abdo (Pottsville, Pa./Nativity BVM) scored eight points. Senior Kenzie Reed (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) finished with a team-high nine rebounds.
 
The Warriors (3-6 overall, 0-2 MAC Freedom) scored 20 points from the paint and nine off turnovers.
 
Posting 16 points in each of the second-half quarters, the Warriors completed a comeback in the final 10 minutes from a 23-6 deficit at the end of the first quarter, posting back-to-back three-pointers from sophomore Meghan Dufner (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills Regional) and sophomore Mya Wetzel (Frackville, Pa./North Schuylkill) to open the final quarter and cut an eight-point Knights' lead to two. The Warriors took the lead came with 3:40 left on a layup inside by Yoh to make it 49-48. The Knights (7-2 overall, 2-0 MAC Freedom) responded with the next five points before Lycoming was forced to foul in the final 75 seconds to help them escape with the win.
 
After falling behind 27-6 with 7:45 left in the second quarter, the Warriors rebounded, posting 15 points, which included a nine-point run that started with free-throws from Yoh before a jumper from Abdo, another layup from Yoh, and a three-pointer from sophomore Jillian Pumputis (Westminster, Md./Westminster) got the lead down to 12 with 2:36 left in the first half. Lycoming cut the lead further before the end of the period, heading into the locker room down 32-21. Lycoming continued the push in the third quarter, closing within seven on a trey from Abdo with 4:11 left, setting up the final quarter push.
 
The Knights were led by Scarlett Glasser-Nehls and Mara Weaver, who each finished with 15 points. Delaney Bell added 11 points, 12 rebounds and five assists.
 
The Warriors return to action on Saturday, Dec. 10, when they travel to Delaware Valley University for a 1 p.m. MAC Freedom tipoff in Doylestown, Pa.
