WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Freshman
Elisa DiNicola (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock Township) contributed to a winning relay while also picking up individual wins in the 200- and 500-yard freestyles to lead the Lycoming College women's swimming team to an 88-59 win over Hood College on Friday evening, April 2, at Lamade Gym Natatorium. Freshman
Carter Branigan (Lansdowne, Pa./Commonwealth Charter) and junior
Jake Booth (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) each won two individual events on the men's side, but Lycoming fell just short, 94-73, as Hood won the last three events to take the dual.
Â
DiNicola happened to be on the 200-yard medley relay team along with junior
Devon Kaiser (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson), sophomore
Katherine Brown (Glenside, Pa./Abington) and freshman
Courtney Chapman (Warminster, Pa./William Tennent), all of whom didn't lose to a Hood swimmer on Friday night, as they started the night with a time of 1:59.77.
Â
Kaiser took the 200-yard individual medley (2:26.38) and Chapman won the 200-yard butterfly (2:10.41) before both teamed with freshmen
Sarah Loucks (Branchport, N.Y./Penn Yan) and
Ruth Kauffman (Sunrise, Fla./Homeschooled) to win the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:55.74.
Â
DiNicola posted a time of 6:07.04 to take the 500-yard freestyle and she edged out Brown (2:11.45) in the 200-yard freestyle (2:10.41).
Â
Kauffman earned a win in the 1,000-yard freestyle (12:59.63) and Loucks won the 100-yard freestyle in 1:13.65, holding off Kaila Tom, who had edged Loucks in the 50-yard freestyle.
Â
On the men's side, Branigan won back-to-back events to highlight the night, taking the 200-yard individual medley in 2:07.01 and the 200-yard butterfly in 2:08.37. Booth posted wins in the 200-yard freestyle (1:50.97) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:09.86). Freshman
Brennan Warner (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro Area) also won the 50-yard freestyle in 23.96.
Â
The Warriors held a 62-59 lead after Booth's win in the 200-yard backstroke, but Hood won each of the last three events to comeback for the win against Lycoming's six-swimmer side.
Â
The Warriors get back in the pool on Friday, April 16, when they start the three-day virtual MAC Championships at 6 p.m. in Lamade Gym Natatorium.
