Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Warriors pull out third straight in final minute, 72-68

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Sophomore Dyson Harward (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) scored a team-high 19 points and collected a game-best 10 rebounds to notch his first double-double of the season and push the Lycoming College men's basketball team to a 72-68 win on Thursday night, March 4, at Lamade Gym, in its first competition in 20 days.

Three other Warriors (3-0) dropped double digits in the points column, as freshman Brendan Blackson (Laurel, M.D./Laurel) and sophomores DeAundre Manuel (Brooklyn, N.Y./ KIPP NYC College Prep) and Mo Terry (Severn, M.D./Severn School) added 11 apiece for Lycoming, which shot 37 percent (21-for-57) from the field.

Harward finished 5-of-9 from the field and is now shooting 57 percent (12-for-21) on the season. His double-double performance was the seventh of his young career.

The Warriors made up for a sluggish start in which they scored just three points in the first 6:36 by closing the first half on a 31-19 run, holding Arcadia to a 4-of-17 shooting clip over that span while shooting 11-for-25 themselves. The Knights ended up narrowly edging Lycoming in its field goal shooting, as they finished 38 percent (22-for-58) from the floor.

After the Warriors dug themselves an early 11-3 hole, Harward helped his team claw its way back, scoring 11 of its next 21 points, and Lycoming eventually tied it for the first time since 0-0 at 28 apiece thanks to a layup from freshman Steven Hamilton (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville Area) at the 2:20 mark.

Lycoming then got its first lead 40 seconds later when Manuel converted on a layup off an assist from Darius Dangerfield (Abingdon, M.D./Harford Tech) to jump out in front, 30-29. Dangerfield went on to finish with a team-high six assists and added nine points and seven rebounds as well.

The Warriors led by as many as eight three minutes into the second half, but Arcadia hung around, snatching the lead back momentarily at 40-39 with 10:41 remaining, after a converted and-one by Da'Kquan Davis, who posted a game-high 26 points, thanks in large part to his 11-of-13 free throw shooting performance.

After that three-point play, the Knights would never hold the lead again, as the Warriors nearly doubled their points total from that moment on, bullying Arcadia on the glass at both ends while also forcing an abundance of ill-advised shots down the stretch.

Lycoming still allowed the Knights to linger though, as the visitors knotted the score once again at 65-all with 1:34 to go after a pair of Jalen Watkins free throws. Watkins added 16 points for Arcadia.

Terry promptly broke the tie with a layup 26 seconds later before Dangerfield and Hamilton would seal the deal for Lycoming at the charity stripe by each knocking down a pair of free throws in the final minute.

The Warriors get back on the court on Friday, March 5, when they travel to Arcadia for the second half of a home-and-home at 7 p.m.
