Warriors fall to Devils

MADISON, N.J. – Sophomore Rory Hines (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland) and freshman Max Anderson (Harrisburg, Pa./Homeschooled) each posted two goals to lead the Lycoming College men's lacrosse team, but a five-goal fourth-quarter lifted FDU-Florham to a 10-8 MAC Freedom win on Saturday, March 20, at Shields Stadium.
 
Junior Josh Hall (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) led the Warriors with five groundballs and two caused turnovers and junior Owen Zimmerman (Stevens, Pa./Cocalico) added a goal and two assists for the Warriors (0-2 overall, 0-1 MAC Freedom).
 
The Devils (1-3 overall, 1-1 MAC Freedom) were led by seven goals from Tyler Garcia and a goal and five assists from Zane Johnston. MacGyver Hay posted three ground balls and caused six turnovers.
 
The Warriors took a 3-1 lead through the first quarter, with Anderson scoring his first goal late in the quarter. In the second quarter, Anderson's second goal made it 6-3 midway through the quarter before FDU-Florham closed the gap to two goals before the half.
 
Zimmerman posted a goal off a dish from Hines to start the third quarter, but the Devils scored the next five goals, four from Garcia, to take a 9-7 lead with 7:45 left. Hines scored his second goal off a dish from freshman Zach Anderson (Fogelsville, Pa./Northwestern Lehigh) with 3:08 left, but Zane Johnston scored the final goal with 2:00 left for FDU-Florham.
 
Sophomore Sean Sonnie (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) stopped 16 shots for the Warriors and Austin Van Holten made 15 stops as both keepers saw 38 shots from their opponents.
 
Lycoming forced 16 turnovers in the game, with Hall, freshman Lucas Podvey (Montclair, N.J./Montclair), sophomore Joe Corozzo (Glen Head, N.Y./North Shore), junior Michael Scarponi (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) and senior Jake Davis (Honeoye, N.Y./Honeoye) each had two.
 
The Warriors get back on the field on Wednesday, March 24, when they host DeSales University in MAC Freedom action at 4 p.m. at UPMC Field.
