Lockard leads Warriors against Drew

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – In the final round of the Hoops for Hounds Tournament, sophomores Emily Lockard (Benton, Pa./Benton Area) and Allison Butler (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove Area) posted double-digit efforts to lead the Lycoming College women's basketball team, which fell to undefeated Drew University, 78-60, on Thursday afternoon, Dec. 30, at Lamade Gym.
 
Lockard posted a season-best 14 points to go with two assists, a team-leading six rebounds and four steals, scoring 12 from the floor and two in free throw attempts. Butler scored 10 points, her sixth double-digit game of the year.
 
Ten Warriors (3-9 overall) scored against the Rangers (10-0 overall). First-year Ashley Yoh (Myerstown, Pa./Eastern Lebanon County) totaled eight points and first-year Mya Wetzel (Frackville, Pa./North Schyulkill) added six points and a team-leading five assists.
 
Sophomore Mia Rudalavage (Eynon, Pa./Valley view) had six points, junior Emily Zoscin (Weatherly, Pa./Weatherly Area) had five and junior Diana Rantz (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) scored four.
 
The Rangers opened the game on an 8-2 run before Zoscin sunk a 3-pointer at the six-minute mark to boost the Warriors within four points of the Rangers at 9-5. Six Warriors scored in the first quarter, but Drew built a 23-14 lead.
 
Zoscin and Yoh each scored another two points in the second quarter, while Lockard and Rudalavage scored six points each to combine for 12 of the Warriors 16 points. The Rangers scored 18 points to lead at the half, 41-30.
 
Brought kicked off the second half with a 3-point shot before Butler posted eight points in the third period with three layups and a jump shot. Rantz posted her first points of the night with two minutes remaining in the third on a good layup. Drew outscored the Warriors by a point, 16-15 in the period.
 
The Rangers went on a 12-point scoring tear early in the fourth. Lockard scored six in the fourth quarter, but Drew led by double figures for the last 10 minutes.
 
Joey Meyers led the Rangers with 17 points, three assists, and a team-leading eight rebounds. Erin Frederick posted 16 points, a team-high six assists, and four rebounds.
 
The Warriors return to the court in 2022 on Wednesday, Jan. 5, when they travel to Delaware Valley for a 6 p.m. MAC Freedom match.
