Warriors shoot past Devils, 74-55

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Hitting a 10 3-pointers, led by seven from senior Matt Ilodigwe (Wilmington, Del./Concord), and shooting a healthy 45 percent from the field, the Lycoming College men's basketball team cruised past FDU-Florham, 74-55, in MAC Freedom action at Lamade Gym on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 11.
 
The Warriors' inside game was also key to the victory with junior Dyson Harward (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) posting 16 points and a career-high tying 17 rebounds and junior DeAundre Manuel (Brooklyn, N.Y./KIPP NYC Prep) posting 19 points and eight rebounds, as the Warriors (5-4 overall, 1-1 MAC Freedom) used a 48-21 advantage on the glass to score 16 points off second-chance opportunities.
 
Ilodigwe led the team with 23 points, hitting 7-of-14 from deep, also adding four assists. Sophomore Steven Hamilton (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville Area) added nine points, six rebounds and a game-best five assists.
 
The Warriors opened the game on a 12-2 run through its first four minutes, but FDU (3-7 overall, 0-3 MAC Freedom) cut that down to a five-point lead with 7:30 left in the period after Matthew Johnson hit a 3-pointer. The Warriors responded by going on a 16-8 run to lead by 13 after Manuel hit a layup with 2:26 left. The Devils scored the last five points of the period to make it 36-28 at the break.
 
A second-chance dunk by Manuel two minutes into the second half made it 40-29 and the Warriors led by double figures the rest of the way, expanding the lead to as many as 22 (74-52) with 2:16 left.
 
Matthew Johnson had a game-high 26 points to go with four steals and five rebounds to lead the Devils and Oliver Ortman added 12 points and five rebounds.
 
Lycoming held FDU to just 37 percent (18-of-48) from the floor and 29 percent (6-of-21) in the second half. FDU also shot 14 percent (3-of-22) from 3-point range while the Warriors shot 33 percent (10-of-31).
 
The Warriors get back on the court on Friday, Dec. 17, when they host King's College at 1 p.m. in a MAC Freedom game.
