WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – A run of 19 straight points to start the game helped pace the Lycoming College basketball team, which had five players finish in double figures, as it posted an 88-63 MAC Freedom win over King's College on Friday afternoon, Dec. 17, at Lamade Gym.
Senior
Matt Ilodigwe (Wilmington, Del./Concord) led the Warriors (6-4 overall, 2-1 MAC Freedom), as he hit seven 3-pointers to finish with 21 points. He added seven rebounds and four assists. Sophomore
Steven Hamilton (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville Area) added 13 points, five assists and four rebounds, sophomore
Mavin James (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) added a career-best 12 points, junior
Jon-Marc Flores-Diaz (San Antonio, Texas/William Howard Taft) posted 10 points and two assists and junior
Dyson Harward (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) added 10 points and 13 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the season.
The Warriors shot 49 percent (33-of-68) from the field in the game, hitting a season-best 17 3-pointers and assisting on 26 of their 33 made shots. Lycoming also held a 49-29 advantage on the glass, which led to a 26-3 advantage in second-chance points. King's shot just 34 percent (21-of-61) and hit just 23 percent (5-of-22) from 3-point range.
Junior
DeAundre Manuel (Brooklyn, N.Y./KIPP NYC Prep) posted seven points, 11 rebounds and a career-high six assists and junior
Tobias Walden (New York, N.Y./Southern Columbia (Pa.) posted five points, four rebounds and two assists.
The Warriors scored the first 19 points of the game over the first eight minutes, with Flores-Diaz leading the run with eight points, while the Monarchs (5-6 overall, 1-2 MAC Freedom) missed their first 12 shots of the contest.
The Monarchs cut the lead down to nine with a 13-3 run over the next four minutes, but the Warriors once again pulled away with an 18-5 run to take a 40-19 lead with 2:31 left in the first period before leading 42-26 at the break.
The closest the Monarchs got to the Warriors in the second half was an 11-point deficit five minutes into the period and a 23-11 run by the Warriors in the final 6:53 helped Lycoming lead by a game-high 25 after a 3-pointer from junior
Luke Finkbeiner (Warrenton, Va./Wakefield School) fell through with 1:03 left for the game's final points.
Patrick Bennie led the Monarchs with 14 points and Tyler Faux added 13 points. Eamonn Walsh posted 10 points and Noah Tanner notched three assists, along with Carmine Castiello.
The Warriors get back on the court on Wednesday, Dec. 29, when they head to a tournament at the University of Mount Union, where they will face Wilmington (Ohio) at 5 p.m.
