Branigan leads Warrior men past Penn State Altoona

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Sophomore Carter Branigan (Lansdowne, Pa./Commonwealth Charter) took first in two individual events to lead the Lycoming College men's swimming team to a 107-82 win over Penn State Altoona on Friday night, Dec. 10, at the Lamade Gym Natatorium. Junior Katherine Brown (Glenside, Pa./Abington) led the women with two individual event wins, as the Warriors fell to the Lions, 100-53.
 
Branigan paced the Warrior men (5-2 overall), who won seven of the 11 events, with wins in the the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:07.52 and the 100-yard butterfly, clocking a time of 54.81. Branigan also won both races at the Diamond City Invitational on Nov. 20.
 
Juniors Reilly Gluz (Syracuse, N.Y./Williston Northampton) and Will Marcinkowski (Philadelphia, Pa./LaSalle College) each won individual events, Gluz took home a hard-fought win in the 1,000-yard freestyle at 11:31.32 and Marcinkowski clinched the meet with a win in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:02.79. Senior Jake Booth (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:51.20 and first-year Noah Vivan (Barto, Pa./Boyertown) won the 50-yard freestyle (22.84).
 
The men's relay team consisting of Booth, sophomore Eliot Keith (New Ringgold, Pa./Blue Mountain), sophomore C.J. Zortman (York, Pa./York Suburban), and Vivian won the men's 200-yard freestyle relay with a combined time of 1:34.27.
 
The Lions fell to 3-2 overall.
 
Brown won the first event of the night on the women's side, taking the 50-yard freestyle race with a time of 25.26. She then took first in the 100-yard freestyle at 55:40. Sophomore Elisa DiNicola (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock Township) claimed the third win of the night for the women, taking home the 100-yard butterfly with a winning time of 1:02.72, beating her previous season-best time of 1:03.22.
 
The Warrior women fell to 1-6 overall and the Lions improved to 4-2.
 
The Warriors return to the pool in 2022 on Sunday, Jan. 16, when they host King's College at 1 p.m. in the Lamade Gym Natatorium.
