Warriors fall to No. 2 Yeshiva in opener

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Junior DeAundre Manuel (Brooklyn, N.Y./KIPP NYC Prep) had 12 points and sophomore Mavin James (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) had 10 to lead the Lycoming College men's basketball team, which fell to No. 2-ranked Yeshiva University, 90-54, in the opening round of the Dutch Burch Tip-Off Classic on Saturday evening, Nov. 6.
 
Manuel was aided by a 6-for-6 effort at the free throw line and James hit both of his 3-pointers. Sophomore Steven Hamilton (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville Area) had seven points and four assists and and junior Dyson Harward (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) added six points and nine rebounds. Sophomore Brendon Blackson (Laurel, Md./Laurel) posted eight points.
 
The Maccabees (1-0 overall) opened the game on a 13-5 run before the Warriors scored eight in a row, with Harward and Hamilton finishing the run with 3-pointers. Yeshiva answered soon after with a run of 12 straight points and never let the Warriors back within 10 in the final 27 minutes, expanding the lead to 26 points at the break at 47-21. They led by as many as 37 in the second half.
 
Ryan Turell finished with 32 points to lead Yeshiva, which shot 59 percent (38-of-65) from the floor in the win while holding Lycoming to 29 percent (18-of-62). Ofek Reef posted 16 points and Eitan Halpert added 13, while Gabriel Leifer posted seven points, six assists and 10 rebounds.
 
The Warriors get back on the court with the final round of the Dutch Burch Tip-Off on Sunday, Nov. 7, facing Clarks Summit at 4 p.m. after Yeshiva faces Penn State Schuylkill in the first game at 2 p.m. Clarks Summit beat Penn State Schuylkill, 76-68, in the first game of the classic.
