Harward sparks Warriors at Susquehanna

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Junior Dyson Harward (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) posted season highs of 19 points and 14 rebounds to lead a group of five Warriors in double figures as the Lycoming College men's basketball team beat Susquehanna University, 75-56, at O.W. Houts Gymnasium on Monday night, Nov. 22.

The Warriors (4-2 overall) shot a season-best 53 percent (29-of-55) from the floor while holding a frequently flustered River Hawk offense to 31 percent (21-of-67).

Junior Mo Terry (Severn, Md./Severn School) notched 12 points and seven rebounds, sophomore Steven Hamilton (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville Area) added 11 points and five assists and both senior Matt Ilodigwe (Wilmington, Del./Concord) and sophomore Brendon Blackson (Laurel, Md./Laurel) each had 10 points. Ilodigwe also had five assists.

Junior DeAundre Manuel (Brooklyn, N.Y./KIPP NYC Prep) posted seven points and seven rebounds and junior Jon-Marc Flores-Diaz (San Antonio, Texas/William Howard Taft) contributed six points, four rebounds and three assists, as both Flores-Diaz and Blackson crossed 100 career points in the game.

Susquehanna (3-2 overall), which reached the second round of the 2020 NCAA Championship, scored the first four points of the second half to cut Lycoming's halftime lead in half, but the Warriors answered by scoring the next eight points, spearheading a 26-10 run that gave Lycoming a 62-42 lead with 8:35 left. Hamilton led the run with six points and Blackson added five, as Lycoming hit 10-of-13 shots during that run, while Susquehanna managed just four field goals.

Susquehanna cut the lead to 14 with 5:34 left, but Blackson hit a 3-pointer in the left corner as he was being contacted and Terry followed with an old-fashioned 3-point play to spoil the threat. Manuel capped the evening's scoring with a fastbreak dunk off a pass from Hamilton.

Lycoming opened the half on a 17-6 run that occupied the first 8:12 of the game, with Harward providing an early spark thanks to hitting a pair of 3-pointers, while Terry also had five points during the run. The River Hawks cut the lead down to three points over the next eight minutes, but a 3-pointer from the left corner by Ilodigwe halted the run and a pair of second-chance putback by Harward, one on a steal and one on a rebound closed out the scoring in the first half, sending the Warriors to the locker room with a 36-28 lead.

Lukas Yurasits led the River Hawks with 16 points and Dominic Dunn added 12. Danny Frauenheim posted five assists and Yurasits and Howie Rankine each had three steals. Jay Martin blocked three shots.

The Warriors get back on the floor on Sunday, Nov. 28, when they head to 14th-ranked Johns Hopkins for a 2 p.m. tip-off.
