Warriors fall to ninth-ranked York College

YORK, Pa. – Five players recorded a goal for the Lycoming College men's lacrosse team as it fell to ninth-ranked York College, 18-5, in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon, March 8.

Senior Drew Collins (Victor, N.Y./Victor), freshman Rory Hines (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland), junior Jake Davis (Honeoye, N.Y./Honeoye), sophomore Owen Zimmerman (Stevens, Pa./Cocalico) and freshman Zach Anderson (Fogelsville, Pa./Northwestern Lehigh) each recorded a goal. Freshman Cameron Kuzniar (Rochester, N.Y./Rochester) stopped 17 of 48 shot attempts from the Spartans and the Warriors (2-3 overall) scooped up 37 ground balls.

After Collins blasted a shot in for a goal with 12:24 left in the first to tie the game, O'Sullivan rattled off four straight goals and Ryan Sisitki added one with 36 seconds to give the Spartans a 6-1 advantage. Hines found the back of the net in transition to open the second quarter and Davis added a pretty goal as he raced past the crease after winning a ground ball off the faceoff to close the gap to four, but York scored four more to hold a 10-3 advantage.

Zimmerman and Anderson both added a goal in the third and fourth quarters, respectively, but the Spartans scored eight in that span.

Zimmerman led the Warriors with four groundballs, and Davis, sophomore Markus Sidwell (Glen Burnie, Md./Glen Burnie), senior Nick Russello (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) and sophomore Justin Joseph (Exeter, Pa./Wyoming Area) each added three.

York was led by an eight-goal effort from Brendan O'Sullivan. Jacob Wilhelm added three goals, Jack Michael picked up the win with one save and Ian Callinan secured five saves in relief.

The Warriors are back in action on Wednesday afternoon, March 11, when they travel to Virginia Wesleyan for a 5 p.m. game.
