YORK, Pa. – Junior Cara Zortman (York, Pa./York Suburban) broke a 16-year old school record in the 50-yard freestyle to highlight the Lycoming College swimming team's day at the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships on Thursday, Feb. 13, at the Graham Aquatic Center.
 
Zortman posted a time of 24.63 in the preliminaries of the 50-yard freestyle to break the school record of 24.82 set by Julie Harahush in 2004, as she qualified for the finals in the event. Zortman posted a time of 24.67 in the finals to finish third in the event and earn Honorable Mention All-MAC honors.
 
Junior Brandon Vought (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg Area) finished 23^rd in the 500-yard freestyle, posting a 4:59.60, which is the fourth-fastest time in program history.
 
Sophomore Jake Booth (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) took 12^th in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:02.43 for the men and sophomore Devon Kaiser (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) took 24^th in the event on the women's side in 2:24.54.
 
Kaiser, freshman Katherine Brown (Glenside, Pa./Abington), senior Elena Pikounis (Marriottsville, Md./Marriots Ridge) and Zortman took seventh in the 200-yard medley relay, posting a 1:54.09 to edge out Wilkes and Albright.
 
The men also took 10^th in the 200-yard medley relay, with the team of junior Dom Berardelli (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville), freshman William Marcinkowski (Philadelphia, Pa./LaSalle College), freshman Matthew Michenfelder (East Windsor, N.J./Hightstown) and Booth posting a 1:44.73.
 
The second day of the MAC Championships gets underway at 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 14, with preliminaries for the the 400-yard individual medley, 100-yard butterfly and 200-yard freestyle. Finals will begin at 6 p.m., as the 200-yard freestyle relay and the 400-yard individual medley will also be decided.
