Dangerfield’s season high lifts Warriors above Eagles, 73-56

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.—Junior Darius Dangerfield (Abingdon, Md./Harford Tech) notched a season-high 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting to go along with nine assists and four steals to fuel the Lycoming College men's basketball team to a 73-56 win over Juniata College on Sunday afternoon, Jan. 5, at Lamade Gym.

Four Warriors scored in double figures, as Lycoming (9-4 overall) built an early 16-7 lead after freshman Mo Terry (Severn, Md./Severn) dropped his first 3-pointer of the day. Terry finished with 14 points and four assists. Senior Ryan Hollis (Centerville, Md./Saints Peters & Paul) added 14 points and sophomore D'Andre Edmond (Pflugerville, Texas/Pflugerville) collected five rebounds and finished with a season-high 12 points.

Lycoming held a lead for all of the first half as Dangerfield carved out 13 points and three steals. The Warriors stretched its lead to 10 (29-19) with three minutes left in the half on Dangerfield's bucket as he drove through the Juniata defense.  Hollis chipped in six points and freshman Dyson Harward (Danville, Pa./Danville) scored four points.

The Eagles (3-9) clawed back to within two points before the half going on a 9-2 run to make it a 31-28 game as Jacob Holsopple hit a jumper and a three-pointer just before the buzzer in Juniata's final two possessions.

Lycoming's defense came alive in the second half. Harward blocked three shots to move into eighth all-time in program history, tied with Kevin Anthony (2011-2012) with 39 blocks, to lead the second half defensive effort, which held the Eagles to just 33 percent from the floor.

The Warriors' good defense led to offense with five of seven fast-break points coming in the second half, which resulted in 64 percent shooting and 42 points after the break. After a Dangerfield steal, sophomore Matt Ilodigwe (Wilmington, Del./Concord) dropped an open three which began a 24-10 run to push its lead to 20 midway through the period. Juniata got within 11 at the 5:48 mark after a Filippo Baldo trey, but Lycoming bounced right back as Terry dropped in a clever hook shot while getting fouled and Edmond added a layup that got the Warriors lead back to 16 with four minutes to play.

Kohl Bernarding scored 18 points with six rebounds and had three assists and four steals for Juniata. Nate DaCanal scored 14 and added a team-high four steals.

Lycoming gets back to conference play with a home game against Albright College on Wednesday, Jan. 8, at 4 p.m., as part of a doubleheader with the women's basketball teams' to follow.
