Warriors surge past Beacons, 13-9

DAVENPORT, Fla. – A seven-goal first quarter was enough to help the Lycoming College men's lacrosse team jump out to a lead that surged to seven points in the third quarter before the team rounded out a 13-9 win over UMass-Boston at Northeast Regional Park on Friday afternoon, March 15.

Junior Drew Collins (Victor, N.Y./Victor) tied a career-high with five goals to go with one assist to lead the Warriors (2-5 overall), crossing the 50-career goal mark with his first score of the game, and senior Andrew Ream (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) added three goals and three assists. Junior Shain Quigley (Lincoln University, Pa./Oxford Area) and senior Travis Rode (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) each had a goal, an assist and four groundballs.

Freshman Justin Joseph (Exeter, Pa./Wyoming Area) won 8-of-13 faceoffs and picked up six groundballs and senior Austin Arroyo (Shillington, Pa./Governor Mifflin) added six groundballs and a caused turnover. Sophomore Jake Davis (Honeoye, N.Y./Honeoye) caused two turnovers.

Through the game's first 10 minutes, the Warriors held a 3-2 lead before Rode started a run of four goals in the last 5:08 of the first quarter, with Quigley scoring a man-up goal on a dish from Collins to make it 7-2 at the end of the period. Senior Eric Schutta (Frenchtown, N.J./Delaware Valley Regional) also scored his first career goal, a transition score during the run.

Collins added two second quarter goals to make it 9-3 heading into the break and he added two more in the first five minutes of the third quarter to make it 11-4. The Beacons (1-5 overall) scored five of the next six to make it 12-9 with 8:15 left after a pair of man-up scores, but Ream scored the last goal with 3:13 left, as Lycoming allowed just four shots in the final three minutes.

Ned Parker led the Beacons with three goals and Jeremy Girard added two assists. Chris Palin posted four groundballs and caused two turnovers.

Senior Michael Tenant (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) earned the win, posting seven saves in 32:15 before coming out with a 10-4 lead. Freshman Michael Turck (Homer, N.Y./Homer) went the rest of the way, notching 11 saves. UMass-Boston's Cameron Dixson finished with 13 saves.
