Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

McFadden reaches milestone to lead Warriors, 64-60

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Senior Akilah McFadden (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg Area) became the 11th player in the history of the Lycoming College women's basketball team to reach 1,000 career points, as she led the team with 20 points, seven rebounds, six assists and three steals, helping Lycoming ward off a late Stevenson University rally to stay perfect in MAC Commonwealth play with a 64-60 win at Owings Mills Gymnasium on Saturday, Dec. 7.

McFadden reached the mark with her 11th of 14-first-half points, as she became the first player to reach the 1,000-point mark since Shelby Mueller did it during the 2018-19 season. Senior Morgan Mader (Cresco, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) added 17 points and three 3-pointers, as she became the ninth player in school history to hit 100 career 3-pointers with her last trifecta of the game.

Junior Erica Lutz (Bernville, Pa./Hamburg) posted 12 points, eight rebounds and three assists and senior Kayla Kline (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg) added eight points and six rebounds.

The Warriors (6-2 overall, 2-0 MAC Commonwealth) led 50-41 heading into the fourth quarter, but the Mustangs (2-5 overall, 0-2 MAC Commonwealth) countered with three straight 3-pointers, two from Brandi Hall, to tie the game at 50 with 7:35 left. McFadden hit two free throws to stop the run with 6:12 left and Mader hit a huge open look from 3-point range to make it 55-50 with 5:41 left.

Stevenson cut the lead down to three points two more times, the last with 38 seconds left, but Mader was fouled taking a 3-pointer and she hit all three free throws closing out the game by 5-of-7 at the line in the final 38 seconds and sophomore Allison Wagner (York, Pa./Central York) hit two free throws as the game drew to an end to make up the final four-point margin.

The Warriors started the game with an 11-4 run before Stevenson cut the margin to two at the end of the first quarter at 17-15, as McFadden hit the 1,000-point mark with her last layup of the period for her 11th point of the game.

Stevenson tied the game in the second quarter, but never took the lead, and a late run by Lycoming helped it take an eight-point lead off a fastbreak layup from Lutz with 26 seconds left before a pair of free throws from Stevenson made it 33-27 at the break.

Lycoming led by as many as 14 in the third quarter at 45-31 with 6:40 remaining before Stevenson cut the lead down to down to nine at the end of the quarter, setting up their comeback.

Stevenson, which had 19 turnovers and shot 37 percent (21-of-57) from the field, was led by 17 points and seven rebounds from Hall and 16 points, 11 rebounds and two blocks from Olivia Coleman.

Lycoming shot just 32 percent (20-of-63) from the field, but were able to hit 18-of-25 (72 percent) from the free throw line to post the win.

The Warriors get back on the court on Wednesday, Dec. 11, when they host defending MAC Commonwealth champion 17th-ranked Messiah College at 8 p.m. in Lamade Gym.
