Erica Lutz (Bernville, Pa./Hamburg) and senior
Kayla Kline (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg) each posted double-doubles to lead the Lycoming College women's basketball team, which surged in the second half to post a 58-46 win over Alvernia University in both teams' MAC Commonwealth opener at Jack McCloskey Court on Wednesday night, Dec. 4.

Lutz finished with 10 points, 13 rebounds, five steals and two blocks and Kline complimented her to the tune of 10 points, 11 rebounds and four assists, as four Warriors finished in double figures. Senior
Morgan Mader (Cresco, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) notched a game-high 14 points, hitting three 3-pointers, and senior
Akilah McFadden (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg Area) added 12 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals.

The Warriors (5-2 overall, 1-0 MAC Commonwealth) rebounded from a first half where it shot 22 percent by shooting 46 percent (13-of-28) from the floor in the second half. Meanwhile, the Golden Wolves (5-2 overall, 0-1 MAC Commonwealth) were held to 25 percent (6-of-24) in the second half and just 29 percent (14-of-49) in the game.

With the game tied at 28 midway through the third quarter, a layup on a fastbreak bounce pass from Kline to Mader gave Lycoming the lead and started the team on a run of eight straight points, capped on a layup by Lutz with 1:16 left in the period, making it 38-36.

In the fourth quarter, Alvernia cut the lead down to four points with 6:04 left, but Kline scored three points in a row, starting a 10-1 run that gave Lycoming a 51-38 lead with 3:10 left and Alvernia couldn't cut the lead back to single digits in the rest of the game.

Both teams struggled offensively throughout the first half, with Alvernia scoring the first four points of the game and holding Lycoming scoreless until Mader hit a 3-pointer in transition with 4:13 left in the first quarter. Lycoming took its first lead, 10-9, off a layup from Kline with 42 seconds left before Alvernia hit a last-second shot to take the lead into the second quarter, where they led by as many as three before Lycoming took a 3-point lead off a fastbreak layup from McFadden with 1:42 left. Gabriella DeVito hit a 3-pointer to tie the game at 19 for the Wolves, which is where the game stood at halftime.

Torie Zerbe finished with 12 points, six rebounds and three steals for the Golden Wolves and Cathryn Kramer also added 12 points. DeVito added 11 points, five assists and three steals.

The Warriors get back on the court on Saturday, Dec. 7, when they head to Stevenson University for a 1 p.m. MAC Commonwealth game.
