Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Harward’s record helps Lycoming past Susquehanna, 79-70

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Freshman Dyson Harward (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) had a school-record eight blocked shots, including two pivotal ones down the stretch, and the Lycoming College men's basketball used an 18-point overtime to outlast rival Susquehanna, 79-70, in overtime on Sunday afternoon, Dec. 1, at Lamade Gym.

Harward finished with 12 points, nine rebounds and eight blocks, as he broke the record of seven blocks in a game set by Michael Rudy against Penn College on Nov. 15, 2013. He swatted away his record-tying shot with 2:07 left with Susquehanna (4-3 overall) holding a 59-54 lead. Junior Darius Dangerfield (Abingdon, Md./Harford Tech) got the rebound and found sophomore Matt Ilodigwe (Wilmington, Del./Concord) in transition for a 3-pointer.

Junior D'Yante Doughty (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall College) tied the game with a pair of free throws with 1:08 left before Danny Frauenheim hit a pair in response with 49 seconds left. Freshman Mo Terry (Severn, Md./Severn School) tied the game out of a timeout, though, with a layup and a block by Doughty on Susquehanna's next possession guaranteed overtime.

Lycoming (5-1 overall) took the lead in overtime off a pair of free throws from Doughty with 3:32 left before Harward blocked his eighth shot, which led to Doughty hitting a layup in transition. Dominic Dunn tied the game with a 3-pointer halfway through the period, but Doughty responded with a layup before Terry hit a free throw, Ilodigwe canned a 3-pointer and Dangerfield and Doughty hit layups to make it 76-66 with 44 seconds left. Susquehanna cut the lead to six, but Lycoming closed the game out with three free throws to take just its second win over Susquehanna in eight meetings.

Five Warriors finished in double figures, led by 19 points, four rebounds and three assists from Dangerfield and 14 points, five rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks from Doughty. Ilodigwe finished with 13 points and two assists and Terry added 10 points, six rebounds and two steals.

Susquehanna scored the first seven points of the game before Susquehanna got on the board with 13:58 left in the opening half on a 3-pointer from Harward. The Warriors came back to take a 14-12 lead from there, with a jumper from Doughty giving Lycoming its first lead with 6:17 left in the first half. A late 12-5 run gave Lycoming a 28-20 lead off a fast break layup from Dangerfeidle with 51 seconds left, before Susquehanna cut the lead to six at the break.

In the second half, Susquehanna shot 52 percent from the field after shooting 39 percent in the first half, getting out to a 57-49 lead with 4:53 left before the Warriors began to chip at the lead off a jumper from Ilodigwe and a free throw from Dangerfield brought the team to within five, where the Warriors made their move from to force overtime.

Dunn finished with 16 points and eight rebounds to lead the River Hawks, Zachary Knecht had 12 points, nine rebounds, four assists and two blocks and Mike Kempski added 10 points.

The Warriors open up MAC Commonwealth play on Wednesday, Dec. 4, when they head to Alvernia University for a 6 p.m. game.
