WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Junior Cara Zortman (York, Pa./York Suburban) had two top-five finishes and sophomore Jake Booth (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) and junior Dominick Berardelli (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) each added two top-10 finishes to lead the Lycoming College swimming teams on the first day at the Diamond City Invitational at the Wilkes-Barre Catholic Youth Center on Saturday, Nov. 23.
 
The Warrior men finished the first day in eighth place in the 11-team field with 283 points as Scranton leads with 866 points. The Warrior women posted 360 points, finishing the day in ninth place.
 
During the morning session, the Warrior women had several strong performances, particularly in the relays. The 200-freestyle relay team of freshman Katherine Brown (Glenside, Pa./Abington), sophomore Devon Kaiser (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson), senior Michaela Thode (Anderson, Calif./West Valley) and Zortman posted a time of 1:45.84 and the 400-yard medley relay team of Kaiser, Brown, senior Elena Pikounis (Marriottsville, Md./Marriotts Ridge) and Zortman had a time of 4:15.95, as both finished fourth.
 
Zortman also took third in the 50-yard freestyle in 25.36 and Brown finished eighth in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:43.23. Kaiser also scored points, finishing 17^th in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:11.46.
 
In the evening session, the Warriors kept up the strong performances in relays, with the 200-yard medley relay team of Kaiser, Brown, Pikounis and Zortman posting a time of 1:56.34 to take third.
 
Zortman added another top five finish, taking fourth in the 200-yard freestyle (2:00.73), while junior Mikayla Wright (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) added a time of 5:10.72 to take ninth in the 400-yard individual medley. Brown also took 11^th in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:06.09, Pikounis took 11^th in the 100-yard butterfly (1:07.93) and Kaiser took 12^th in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:16.33.
 
On the men's side, Booth took fourth in the 200-yard individual medley (2:05.80) and junior Brandon Vought (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg Area) took seventh in the 500-yard freestyle (5:04.90) in the morning.
 
In the evening, Berardelli posted a pair of top-10 finishes to lead the team, notching a time of 4:40.78 in the 400-yard individual medley to take sixth and a time of 59.84 in the 100-yard backstroke to take eighth. Booth added an eighth-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:52.17 and freshman William Marcinkowski (Philadelphia, Pa./LaSalle College) took 12^th in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:08.78. Freshman Matthew Michenfelder (East Windsor, N.J./Hightstown) also scored points, finishing 19^th in the 100-yard butterfly (59.77).
 
The Warriors wrap up the Diamond City Invitational on Sunday, Nov. 24, with the 200-yard backstroke starting the day at 10 a.m.
