Warriors rally past Broncos, 81-75

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Down by five points with 4:37 left, the Lycoming College men's basketball team rallied behind eight points from freshman Dyson Harward (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) to post an 81-75 win over defending American Collegiate Athletic Association champions SUNY Delhi on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 16, at Lamade Gym.

Harward hit a layup inside with 4:04 left in the half to make it 68-65 before a pair of free throws from freshman Luke FInkbeiner (Warrenton, Va./Wakefield School) made it a one-point game with 3:32 left. Payton Dean hit a layup for the Broncos (1-1 overall), but Harward responded in kind with 2:37 left. A layup that fell off the rim for the Broncos led to a sprint-out for the Warriors and another layup from Harward to give Lycoming a 71-70 lead with 1:30 left.

After Harward got a huge defensive board, he hit a 12-footer to make it a three-point game before freshman Mo Terry (Severn, Md./Severn School) got a steal at midcourt and hit a layup to make it 75-70 with 29 seconds left. The Broncos weren't able to get closer than four points the rest of the way.

Freshmen accounted for 62 points for the Warriors (2-1 overall), as Finkbeiner led the team with 17 points, hitting five 3-pointers, Harward had 14 points, two rebounds and three blocks, Terry posted 15 points, two assists and two steals and junior Darius Dangerfield (Abingdon, Md./Harford Tech) posted 11 points, six rebounds and five assists.

In the first half, the Warriors took advantage of 13 SUNY Delhi turnovers to score 11 points and take a three-point lead into the break. Terry and Finkbeiner led the way with nine points each, as the Warriors struggled with foul trouble in the back court in the period.

Lycoming used a 17-6 run early in the first half to take a 21-11 lead, as FInkbeiner had nine points and Terry had five during the run. SUNY Delhi fought back with an 18-8 run in the final 11:35 of the period to close within three points at 32-29 at the break.

SUNY Delhi got the lead back early in the second half, leading by two at 43-41 after Payton Dean hit a layup with 15:59 left before posting an 18-7 run to make it 59-50 with 10:50 left after a trifecta from Finkbeiner. The Broncos responded with an 18-4 run to get a 68-63 lead after a layup from Dean with 4:37 left, setting up Lycoming's comeback.
