Hot-shooting Warriors run past Ravens, 96-83

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Shooting a season-best 52 percent from the floor, the Lycoming College men's basketball team had five players finish in double figures as it ran past defending Colonial States Athletic Conference champions Rosemont, 96-83, in non-conference action at Lamade Gym on Sunday afternoon, Nov. 17.
 
Freshman Mo Terry (Severn, Md./Severn School) led the way with 23 points, five rebounds, four assists and two blocks and sophomore Matt Ilodigwe (Wilmington, Del./Concord) added 17 points and two helpers. Junior Darius Dangerfield (Abingdon, Md./Harford Tech) posted 15 points, five assists and two steals, freshman Dyson Harward (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) posted 14 points, eight rebounds, five blocks – tied for eighth-most in school history, and two steals and freshman DeAundre Manuel (Brooklyn, N.Y./KIPP NYC College Prep) had 14 points and eight rebounds.
 
The Warriors (3-1 overall), holding a slim one-point lead at halftime, shot 53 percent (17-of-32) from the field in the second half while holding the Ravens (1-4 overall) to 42 percent (14-of-33). The Warriors also dominated on the glass, holding a 44-23 advantage in the game.
 
With the score 45-44 two minutes into the period, Ilodigwe hit a 3-pointer and then a layup in transition off a steal from Dangerfield to make it a six-point game. The Ravens cut the lead to within a possession three more times, but with the score 61-58 with 11:37 left, Dangerfield hit a runner to start a 13-3 run capped by a layup from Manuel with 5:47 left.
 
The Ravens couldn't get back within single digits and the Warriors led by as many as 14 multiple times in the final moments.
 
In the first half, the two teams exchanged 14 leads and five ties, with Rosemont getting out to a lead as large as five at 18-13 with 14:45 left and Lycoming leading by as many as seven at 39-32 after a jumper by Terry with 3:10 left that made it 39-32. The Ravens scored eight straight points to take a 40-39 lead with 1:48 to go, but the Warriors were able to get the lead at the break off a layup from freshman Tobias Walden Jr. (New York, N.Y./Southern Columbia) with 45 seconds left in the period.
 
Lycoming hit 44 percent (11-of-25) from 3-point range, led by three each from Terry and Ilodigwe. Senior Ryan Hollis (Centreville, Md./Saints Peters & Paul) hit two, finishing with eight points, six rebounds and three assists.
 
Marlon Sharpton led the Ravens with 20 points, seven assists and five rebounds, Kahleel Henry added 14 points and three 3-pointers, Osaze Thornton had 13 points and two steals, Zaire Mitchell posted 10 points and two blocks and Chris Briner posted 10 points.
 
The Warriors get back on the court on Saturday, Nov. 23, when they host crosstown rival Penn College at 2 p.m. in Lamade Gym.
