Katherine Brown (Glenside, Pa./Abington) and junior
Cara Zortman (York, Pa./York Suburban) each won two individual events a piece to lead the Lycoming College swimming teams in the season opener against Albright College on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 19, at Lamade Gym Natatorium.

The women's team won eight of the 14 events with just seven active swimmers, but Albright (1-0 overall) used 67 points from its non-first-place finishes to upend the Warriors (0-1 overall), 123-100. On the men's side, Albright, which has won the last three MAC titles, won 11 of the 14 events in 159-84 win.

Booth led the men with strong performances in all of his individual events, winning the 200-yard freestyle in 1:53.28 and the 100-yard backstroke (57.45). He took second in the 200-yard individual medley, nearly pulling off a dramatic comeback against Christopher Laite in the final 50 yards, posting a split of 27.81 to finish in 2:10.46, just behind Laite (2:08.83).

Brown also impressed in her first career swims with Lycoming, as she won the 50-yard breaststroke (32.88) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:10.45). Zortman added wins in the 200-yard freestyle (2:05.10) and the 50-yard butterfly (29.78).

Senior
Michaela Thode (Ontario, Calif./Colony) posted a time of 32.58 to win the 50-yard backstroke and senior
Elena Pikounis (Marriottsville, Md./Marriotts Ridge) won the 100-yard butterfly in 1:08.78. Sophomore
Devon Kaiser (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) added a 2:30.44 to win the 200-yard individual medley.

The team of Thode, Brown, Pikounis and Kaiser also won the 200-yard medley relay in 1:59.92, while Zortman, Pikounis, Kaiser and Brown finished just three-tenths of a second behind Albright in the 200-yard freestyle relay to cap the afternoon, finishing in 1:48.78.

Junior
Dominick Berardelli (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) added a win in the 50-yard backstroke, finishing in 28.03.

The Warriors get back in the pool on Saturday, Nov. 2, when they host Stevenson University in a MAC meet at 1 p.m. in Lamade Gym Natatorium.
