WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Allowing just seven points a piece in the first and fourth quarters, the Lycoming College women's basketball team was able to separate for a 70-45 win over Alvernia University in MAC Commonwealth action on Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 9, in Lamade Gym.

Lycoming improved to 12-4 overall for the second year in a row, the first time in school history the team achieved the feat, and the team improved to 6-1 in the MAC Commonwealth, its best start in conference play since the 1995-96 season.

Junior
Kayla Kline (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg) tied her career high with 24 points, adding eight rebounds and four assists to lead three Warriors in double figures. Junior
Erica Lutz (Bernville, Pa./Hamburg) added 15 points, seven rebounds and six blocks, which is tied for third-most in a single game in school history, as she moved into sixth in the school's career category with 65 in her career. Junior
Akilah McFadden (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg Area) added 10 points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals, as she moved into eighth in the school's career record book in the category.

Lycoming shot 49 percent from the field (30-of-61) including 56 percent (18-of-32) in the second half. Alvernia was held to just 27 percent (15-of-56) from the floor.

The Warriors jumped out of the gate in the first quarter, taking a 9-1 lead in the first four minutes, with Lutz posting seven points during the run. Even after Alvernia (3-12 overall, 0-6
MAC Commonwealth) broke the run with a 3-pointer, the Warriors held the Golden Wolves to those four points until there were 30 seconds left in the period, taking a 16-7 lead into the second quarter.

Lycoming expanded the lead to 14 points midway through the quarter before Alvernia was able to cut it to 12 at the break at 28-16.

In the third quarter, the Warriors built a 35-18 lead, with McFadden hitting a 3-pointer with 6:57 left in the period. The Golden Wolves responded late in the quarter with 14-2 run to close within five points at 37-32 before the Warriors were able to close out the quarter with 10 points to make it 47-38 at the break.

In the last quarter, the Warriors began the period with nine straight points in the midst of a 23-7 advantage during the quarter to seal the 25-point win.

Gabriella De Vito led the Golden Wolves with 15 points and Abbie Zerbe added nine points and six rebounds.

The Warriors get back on the court on Saturday, Jan. 12, when they travel to Hood College for a 1 p.m. MAC Commonwealth game.
