FREDERICK, Md. – Shooting 58 percent from the floor and holding Hood College to just two field goals in the fourth quarter, the Lycoming College women's basketball team overcame a two-point deficit heading into the final period to post a 59-47 MAC Commonwealth win at BB&T Arena on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 12.
 
Two Warriors (13-4 overall, 7-1 MAC Commonwealth) finished with double-doubles, as sophomore 
Erica Lutz (Bernville, Pa./Hamburg) posted 19 points and 13 rebounds to go with three assists and two blocks and junior 
Kayla Kline (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg), who posted 15 points, 11 rebounds and two steals. Junior 
Akilah McFadden (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) added 10 points, five rebounds, two blocks and a steal.
 
Lycoming, which opened the game by shooting just 31 percent (14-of-45) in the first three quarters, entered the fourth quarter trailing, 43-41, but Lycoming took off, with McFadden draining a jumper off the glass to tie the game with 9:32 left before Lutz hit a layup to take the lead with 8:36 remaining.  
 
With the score 47-45, the Warriors embarked on a run of 10 straight points that ate up six minutes in the final period, with Lutz leading the run with four points, as she hit two free throws to make it 57-45 with 1:46 left. Hood was able to end a scoreless drought of 6:30 with 1:34 left with a jumper, but that was as close as they could get, with a jumper by Kline with 15 seconds left rounding out the scoring.
 
The Warriors took a 7-3 lead in the first five minutes of the game, but fought through six ties and three lead changes in the first half, with Hood's Lauren Keeney hitting a 3-pointer with two seconds left to send the game into the break tied at 24. In the third quarter, the Blazers (5-11 overall, 1-6 MAC Commonwealth) jumped out on an 11-3 run to take a 35-27 lead with 6:22 left before the Warriors closed the gap, starting with a huge 3-pointer from freshman 
Kelly Vuz (Blairstown, N.J./North Warren Regional), which started a 10-2 run to tie it with 4:07 left. Hood, however, was able to take the lead into the fourth quarter, building the lead to six at 43-37 before McFadden got four points back in the final two minutes of the period.
 
 Maggie Tien led the Blazers with 16 points and five 3-pointers, and Ebony Pitt posted five points, five rebound, four assists and four steals.
 
Senior 
Becca Painter (Elverson, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) notched three steals and five rebounds for the Warriors and Vuz added five points. Senior 
Jenn Grove (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) had six rebounds and junior 
Megan Heminiak (Cogan Station, Pa./St. John Neumann) hit a big 3-pointer in the third quarter.
 
The Warriors get back on the court on Saturday, Jan. 19, when they head to Arcadia University for a 12 p.m. MAC Commonwealth game.
