WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – After reaching 10 wins in back-to-back seasons for the first time in program history, the Lycoming College women's tennis team will step back into the postseason for a second straight year as well, entering the MAC Commonwealth Championship as the No. 3 seed. Lycoming opens the tournament in the conference semifinals at No. 2 Lebanon Valley College on Tuesday, May 1 at 3:30 p.m.
Â
No. 4 Arcadia will head to top-seeded Messiah for the other conference semifinal, with the two winners facing off at the site of the highest remaining seed on Saturday, May 5, in the conference championship.
Â
Over the past two seasons, the Warriors have won more matches (23) than in any other two-year span in program history. After winning a school-record 13 matches in 2016-17, the Warriors bumped up the schedule, playing Scranton, FDU-Florham, Misericordia and Division II Bloomsburg and still managed to fight through the toughened schedule to a 10-7 record, clinching the No. 3 seed in the conference tournament with back-to-back wins against Alvernia and Hood in the final eight days of the regular season.
Â
The Warriors have relied on strong singles play throughout the season, winning at a 58 percent clip or better at the No. 1, 2, 3 and 5 singles positions.
Â
Sophomore
Hannah Summerson (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport) has once again led that wave after tying the school record for singles wins in a season as a rookie. This season, she has broken the record, posting a 15-6 record and advancing to the MAC Individual Championship finals at No. 2 singles.
Â
Sophomore
Devinity Apollon (Washington D.C./School Without Walls) has topped the lineup and served up a strong spring, posting a 9-3 record at No. 1, including a 6-1 mark in conference play. Senior
Kaitlin Hallabuk (Towanda, Pa./Towanda) has notched a 13-7 record, meanwhile, at No. 3 singles, including a productive 5-2 mark in conference play.
Â
Junior
Brittany Lenze (St. Mary's, Pa./Elk County Catholic) has played well in the No. 5 slot, posting a 7-7 record and a 4-2 mark in conference play, but she will move into the No. 6 slot for the conference tournament with the return of sophomore
Julia Nagle (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area) from an injury. Senior
Kimberleigh Parroccini (Warren, Pa./Warren Area) has also played well in the No. 5 slot, where she will play this week after producing a 4-4 mark at the slot this year.
Â
Nagle, in an injury-plagued season, has added a 6-4 mark at the No. 4 slot this year and a 6-6 mark overall this year.
Â
In doubles play, Summerson and Apollon have combined to post a 5-4 mark at the top doubles spot. Hallabuk and Nagle are 4-3 overall and 4-2 in conference play and Lenze and Parroccini have notched a 5-8 overall record.
Â
Lebanon Valley finished its regular season with a  10-6 overall record and a 6-1 mark in the conference, losing only to top-seeded Messiah. Megan Williams leads the team with 12 wins, primarily from the No. 5 slot, and Sammy Bost is 10-5 overall at the No. 3 slot.
Â
In the first meeting, Apollon won both the No. 1 singles and doubles match, but Lebanon Valley won the last five singles and two doubles to take a 7-2 decision. All three doubles matches were closely contested, with an 8-6 decision at No. 2 and 9-7 at No. 3.
