WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – A dramatic three-set win by senior
Zachary High (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) helped the Lycoming College men's tennis team outlast Alvernia University, 5-4, in MAC Commonwealth action on Senior Day Saturday, April 21, at Bruce Henry Park.

With the match tied at 4, High battled Brad Viggiano from a 3-2 score in the second set with his match the only one on the court. Both High and Viggiano broke each other's serves four times in a row before Viggiano held serve to clinch a 6-4 second set win after High won the first, 6-4. In the third set, however, High played brilliantly, tearing through six straight wins to win his second singles match of the year.

Lycoming (6-10 overall, 2-4 MAC Commonwealth) started the day with wins at the first two doubles, as senior
Rob Smith (Middleburg, Pa./Selinsgrove) and sophomore
Mitch Wheary (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) posted an 8-6 win over Michael Brophy and Jimmy Souder at No. 1 and High and senior
Alhoun Lundy (Hyde Park, N.Y./Franklin D. Roosevelt) posted an 8-5 win over Todd Unger and Viggiano at No. 2.

Duc Dang (Winooski, Vt./Winooski) gave the Warriors their third point with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Craig Grohoski at No. 6 and Smith added a 6-1, 6-0 win over Souder at No. 2 for the fourth point to set up High's deciding match.

The win was the 35
th of Smith's career, as he tied Tony Pollitt (1958-62) for second in program history, while his 12 singles wins this year at tied for fourth in school history.

Alvernia fell to 2-8 overall and 1-5 in the MAC Commonwealth.

The Warriors get back on the court on Saturday, April 28, when they head to Hood College for a 1 p.m. MAC Commonwealth match to wrap up its season.
