Smith wins to lead Warriors at Messiah

GRANTHAM, Pa. – Senior Rob Smith (Middleburg, Pa./Selinsgrove) won his 11th singles match of the year in a superset tiebreaker to lead the Lycoming College men's tennis team on Wednesday afternoon, April 18, as Messiah College posted a 8-1 MAC Commonwealth victory at Criste Courts.
 
Smith defeated Messiah's Connor Graybeal, 6-2, 3-6, 10-5 at No. 2 singles, as he improved to 11-5 in singles play, which is tied for eighth in program history. His 34 career singles wins are third in program history, just one shy of Tony Pollitt's mark of 35, set from 1958-62.
 
Lycoming fell to 5-10 overall and 1-4 in the MAC Commonwealth. Messiah improved to 5-7 overall and 5-0 MAC Commonwealth.
 
The Warriors host Alvernia University on Saturday, April 21, in a 1 p.m. MAC Commonwealth match at Bruce Henry Park.
