Huff posts five points against Mustangs

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Senior Garrett Huff (Corning, N.Y./Corning-Painted Post West) notched three goals and two assists to lead the Lycoming College men's lacrosse team, but Stevenson University used 14 goals in the middle two quarters to post a 21-9 win at the Shangraw Athletic Complex on Tuesday afternoon, April 10.
 
Huff's three goals and two assists helped Lycoming (6-5 overall, 2-2 MAC Commonwealth) to its highest scoring output against the five-time defending MAC Commonwealth champion Mustangs (5-6 overall, 3-0 MAC Commonwealth) in 17 years.
 
Junior Andrew Ream (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) and sophomore Tyler Thompson (Napean, Ontario/Mother Teresa) each notched two goals and an assist, as Lycoming fired 43 shots.
 
The Warriors took an early lead off a goal from Huff just 105 seconds into the game and led 3-2 midway through the first quarter off a score from Ream on a give from junior Travis Rode (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon). Stevenson scored the last two goals of the quarter to take a 4-3 lead and scored 14 goals in the next two quarters while Lycoming countered with five.
 
During that run, the Warriors did score their first man-down goal of the season, as Huff dished off to Thompson in transition for a score with 5:31 left in the third quarter.
 
Junior Cole Masterson (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) posted four groundballs and  caused turnover and sophomore Nick Russello (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) also picked up four groundballs. Thompson added three groundballs and junior Collin Bitsko (Farmingdale, N.J./Freehold Township) posted three groundballs and a caused turnover. Junior Austin Arroyo (Shillington, Pa./Governor Mifflin) added three caused turnovers and two groundballs, as he won 5-of-11 faceoffs with the long pole.
 
JT Thelan posted nine goals and three assists to lead the Mustangs and Chris Hammerquist added two goals and three assists. Kyle Karsian, Harrison Faecher and Ethan Christensen each finished with two goals and two assists. Justin Burnette won 22-of-30 faceoffs and added 12 groundballs.
 
Junior goalkeeper Michael Tenant (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) notched 17 saves in goal in 56 minutes before freshman Tim O'Connor (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) stopped two in four minutes. Sam Ross earned the wins for the Mustangs, as he stopped 11 shots.
 
The Warriors get back on the field on Saturday, April 14, when they head to Widener University for a key 7 p.m. MAC Commonwealth game.
