Warriors fall to Cardinals

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Three Lycoming College men's lacrosse players finished with two goals, but Otterbein University scored 10 goals in the second half to get past Lycoming, 17-8, in non-conference action at Memorial Stadium on Wednesday, March 14.
 
Senior Garrett Huff (Corning, N.Y./Corning-Painted Post West) finished with two goals and an assist and both sophomores Shain Quigley (Lincoln University, Pa./Oxford Area) and Drew Collins (Victor, N.Y./Victor) each had two scores for Lycoming (3-3 overall), as Lycoming took 36 shots.
 
The Warriors began to roll in the first quarter, taking a 2-1 lead off a man-up goal from Collins six minutes into the game. The Warriors added a three-goal run later in the quarter, with Huff scoring with 1:11 left to make it 5-2.
 
The Cardinals rallied to tie the game at six with 4:35 left in the first half before taking the lead with just over a minute to go, heading into the break with a 7-6 lead. In the second half, Otterbein scored the first two goals of the half to wrap up a run of five straight. Even after a goal by freshman Dominick Massaro (Centereach, N.Y./Sachem North) ended the run and made it 9-7 with 9:34 left, Otterbein scored two more goals to end the quarter and two to start the fourth to take a 13-7 en route to the win.
 
Junior Alex Artur (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) won 15-of-24 faceoffs and led the Warriors with six of the team's 25 groundballs. Junior Cole Masterson (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) led the defense with three groundballs and two caused turnovers and junior Austin Arroyo (Shillington, Pa./Governor Mifflin) also had three groundballs and caused a turnover.
 
Connor Dziewit led the Cardinals with six goals and two assists and Joe Sanfillipo posted two goals and four assists. Mike Roman had five groundballs and Chandler Swartz and Xander Seal each caused two turnovers.
 
Junior Michael Tenant (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) (3-3) stopped eight shots in 47 minutes in net and freshman Tim O'Connor (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) stopped one in the last 13 minutes for Lycoming. Matt Niemi stopped 12 shots for the Cardinals.
 
The Warriors get back on the field on Saturday, Sept. 24, when they head to Brockport for a 3:30 p.m. game.
