Warriors' second-half onslaught seals win over King’s

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Firing in 12 second-half goals, the Lycoming College men's lacrosse team broke open a two-goal game at halftime with three players finishing with hat tricks as Lycoming scored its most goals in a game since 2013 in a 17-8 non-conference win at the Shangraw Athletic Complex on Saturday, March 10.

Sophomore Drew Collins (Victor, N.Y./Victor) led the Warriors (3-2 overall) with four goals and two assists and junior Andrew Ream (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) and senior Garrett Huff (Corning, N.Y./Corning-Pained Post) each had three. Three more players had two goals - sophomores Tyler Thompson (Napean, Ontario/Mother Teresa), Shain Quigley (Lincoln University, Pa./Oxford Area) and Aidan Kirkendall (Shrewsbury, Pa./Susquehannock). Thompson also had two assists.

Leading 5-3 at the break, the Warriors began to break open the game in the third quarter. Collins scored twice to make it 7-3 in the first four minutes before King's (1-3 overall) scored a man-up goal. Quigley and Ream followed with goals to start a 6-2 run that made it 13-6 just 77 seconds into the fourth quarter, with Thompson leading the run with both his goals.

King's drew within six twice more, but Lycoming closed out the game with three straight strikes, the last a man-up goal from Kirkendall with 19 seconds left to make up the final nine-goal margin, the team's largest since a 15-5 win over Alvernia on March 29, 2014, while the 17 goals were the most since a 19-2 win over Alvernia the previous year.

Freshman Brandon Waden (West Henrietta, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta) gave Lycoming the lead with 10:49 left in the first quarter and Collins added his first goal four minutes later, but King's rallied to tie the game at two early in the second period. King's tied the game at three with 4:51 left before Huff scored with 3:15 left and Collins added another score to give Lycoming the two-goal advantage at the break.

The Warriors took 39 shots in the game and held a 32-29 advantage in ground balls, grabbing 18 during the 12-goal second half when the Warriors scored six in each quarter. The Warriors were able to efficiently clear the ball in the second half, posting 8-of-10 successfully after going 7-of-11 in the first.

Junior Alex Artur (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) posted eight faceoff wins and seven groundballs. Ream added three groundballs and junior Eric Schutta (Frenchtown, N.J./Delaware Valley Regional) posted two groundballs and a caused turnover.
