SALEM, Va. – Sixth-ranked senior heavyweight Garrett Wesneski (Canton, Pa./Canton Area) won all four of his matches and junior 197-pounder Travis Ogden (Clearfield, Pa./Clearfield Area) won both of his to lead the 20^th-ranked Lycoming College wrestling team to a split at the VBR Sports Southeast Duals at the Salem Civic Center on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 17. Lycoming downed Averett, 32-15, and Southern Virginia, 54-0, and fell to Ferrum, 26-13, and No. 6 Mount Union, 33-14.
 
Wesneski provided a pair of technical falls in Lycoming's two wins and added decisions, one with a 3-0 win over Ferrum's Alveno Matthews, a contender in d3wrestle.com's rankings, and added a 6-3 win over Mount Union's Grant Martin, listed as honorable mention by d3wrestle.com.
 
Against Averett (1-3 overall), Lycoming (2-2 overall) earned bonus points in four of the first eight matches, but held a slim 21-15 lead before Ogden and Wesneski provided bonus-point wins to put the dual out of reach. Ogden's win came by fall at 197 against Christopher Mohr with nine seconds left in the first period before Wesneski posted a 15-0, second-period tech fall of Hagan Smith.
 
Lycoming took a 6-3 lead at 133 after a pin by freshman Seth Andrus (Mill Hall, Pa./Central Mountain) of Korpesh Gootee in 3:47 and a technical fall by junior Trevor Corl (Howard, Pa./Bellefonte) over William Merritt made it 11-6 at 149. Sophomore Josh Haley (Wyalusing Valley, Pa./Wyalusing Valley) added an 11-3 major decision at Joshua Linkous at 157 and freshman Ryan Bohringer (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) pinned Darian Johnson in 2:15 to make it 21-9 before Averett used a pin at 184 to close within a match of the Warriors.
 
Against Southern Virginia (0-6 overall), the Warriors had bonus points in nine of the 10 matches, with senior Eric Hunt (Muncy, Pa./Warrior Run) (133), junior Joe Santomarco (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) (141), junior Hadyn Swartwood (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore Area) (165), Bohringer (174) and junior Brody Keefe (Effort, Pa./Pleasant Valley) (184) posting pins. Corl (149), Haley (157) and Wesneski (285) each had technical falls.
 
Against Ferrum (4-0 overall), the Panthers jumped out to a 10-0 lead before Santomarco notched a 12-0 major decision against Kyle Burns at 141. Ferrum won the next four matches to build a 26-4 lead before Keefe posted an 11-7 win over Braden Homsey at 184 and Ogden added a 7-0 win against Antavian Leary at 197. Wesneski capped the match with a 3-0 win over Matthews.
 
Mount Union (5-0 overall), with two ranked wrestlers in the first two weight classes, jumped out to an 11-0 lead before Santomarco and Corl picked up decisions at 141 and 149, respectively. At 165, Swartwood notched a 16-0 technical fall over Michael McIntire to make it 17-11. Mount Union, though, earned bonus points in the next three bouts before Wesneski earned a 6-3 decision over Grant Martin to make the final 33-14.
 
The Warriors get back on the mat on Friday, Dec. 7, when they head to a tri-match at Thiel College, facing Thiel at 6:30 p.m., and Penn State-Behrend at 5 p.m.
