YORK, Pa. – Despite outscoring the defending SUNYAC champions by seven points in the final 30 minutes, the Lycoming College women's basketball team couldn't overcome its first quarter deficit, falling to SUNY Geneseo, 55-49, in the second game of the York Coaches vs. Cancer Classic at Charles Wolf Gymnasium on Friday night, Nov. 16.
The Warriors (1-1 overall) will face LaRoche College in the consolation of the tournament at 1 p.m., on Saturday, Nov. 17. Geneseo (3-0 overall), the top team receiving votes in this week's D3hoops.com poll, will face York (Pa.) in the tournament championship at 3 p.m. York defeated La Roche, 74-58, in the first game of the tournament.

Kayla Kline (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg) led the Warriors with 15 points, three blocks, two steals and two assists and sophomore
Erica Lutz (Bernville, Pa./Hamburg) added 14 points, five rebounds, two blocks and two steals. Junior
Morgan Mader (Cresco, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) added eight points, four rebounds and three assists and senior
Becca Painter (Elverson, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) added six points and three steals.
Geneseo, which finished 25-3 in 2017-18 and earned its second straight bid to the NCAA Division III Championship, scored the first four points of the fourth quarter before junior
Morgan Mader (Cresco, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) cut the six-point lead in half by drilling a 3-pointer from the right side with 7:20 left. However, over the next 3:40, Geneseo went on an 8-4 run to make it 52-45, and Lycoming was able to come within five points just one more time.
Geneseo jumped out of the gate while Lycoming struggled from the field, taking a 17-4 lead at the end of the first quarter, as Lycoming shot just 13 percent in the first quarter. The Warriors worked back into the game over the course of the next 20 minutes, outscoring the Knights, 34-23, while shooting 50 percent from the floor (24-of-48) to enter the fourth quarter down by two points.
Both Kerrin Montgomery and Kelsey Poplawski had 15 points to lead Geneseo, with Montgomery adding 11 rebounds. McKenna Brooks added eight points, 10 rebounds and three blocks and Lindsay Halpin had eight assists and 10 rebounds.
The Warriors held a 19-5 advantage in points off turnovers, but Geneseo countered that with a 19-2 advantage in second-chance points and an 8-2 lead in fast break points.
