Box Score WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – In her first collegiate tennis match, sophomore Devinity Apollon (District Heights, Md./School Without Walls) proved to be the difference as she picked up a crucial win at No. 2 singles to lift the Lycoming College women's tennis team to a 5-4 season-opening win over Mt. Aloysius College in a non-conference action at Bruce Henry Park on Saturday, Sept. 2.
After a nearly 90-minute rain delay, the Warriors rallied from a 2-1 deficit after doubles play with four singles wins, as Apollon posted a 6-1, 7-5 win at No. 2 singles over Joselyn Walters.
Fellow sophomore Hannah Summerson (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport) also picked up a big win, earning a 6-2, 6-1 decision over Emily Goldyn at No. 1 singles.
The Warriors dropped two of the three doubles matches, with the lone win coming from the junior duo of Kimberleigh Parroccini (Warren, Pa./Warren Area) and Brittany Lenze (St. Mary's, Pa./Elk County Catholic), an 8-2 decision over Alexis Brisko and Ashley Stough at No. 3 doubles.
Lycoming began to climb back with singles play as they took four of the six matches.
While Summerson and Apollon were taking care of their matches, senior Kaitlin Hallabuk (Towanda, Pa./Towanda) took a 7-5, 6-2 at No. 3 singles over Katelynn Arnold. Parroccini, the lone Warrior with two wins in the match, won 6-2, 6-2 over Alexis Brisko at No. 5 singles.
The Warriors move to 1-0 overall and Mount Aloysius fell to 0-2.
Lycoming gets back on the court on Saturday, Sept. 9, when they host Juniata College at 1 p.m. at Bruce Henry Park.
