WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — The Lycoming College women's tennis team earned wins from their top four singles players to swipe a 4-3 victory over Division II Lock Haven University on Tuesday, Sept. 29 at Brandon Park.
Lycoming (3-4) overcame dropping the doubles point against Lock Haven (0-3) with strong individual efforts in singles play to defeat their higher-division foe for the second time in the last three seasons.
In singles play, junior
Sadie Stahl (Duboistown, Pa. / South Williamsport) roared to a 6-0, 6-1 win in No. 1 singles, followed shortly afterwards by a 6-2, 6-2 win in No. 2 singles from first year
Emma Dubnansky (New Market, Md. / Oakdale) and the first win of the year for junior
Yeanneth Rosado (Temple, Pa. / Muhlenburg) in No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-2.
The match came down to the final one to finish: No. 4 singles. First-year
Agi Gecsey (Budd Lake, N.J. / Mount Olive) dropped the first set to Lock Haven's Breanna Chicas, 3-6, but answered back with a 6-4 second-set win to force a superset tiebreaker that decided the match. After falling behind 7-5, Gecsey ripped off five straight points to win the tiebreaker.
Lycoming will be back in action in a non-conference match on Thursday, Oct. 1 at King's (Pa.). The match is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.
