OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Junior
Rachael Shady (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) posted five hits and three runs to lead the Lycoming College softball team offensively and she threw a five-hit shutout to lead the team from the circle, as Lycoming extended its win streak to five games with 3-0 and 10-1 wins in MAC Commonwealth action at Stevenson University on Saturday, April 8.

Freshman
Kayla Kline (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg Area) also extended her hitting streak to a school-record 18 games, tying the record with a single up the middle in the third inning of the first game and a single to right field in the second inning of the second game. She broke the record set by Amy Long (1996) and Holly Lansberry (2012), all while playing in the first 18 games of her career. During the streak, Kline has hit .478 (32-of-67) with 21 runs, five doubles and 10 RBI.

In the first game, Shady (7-4) tossed a complete-game, striking out four in her 20
th career win, while she also contributed to the team's three-run sixth-inning rally to lead the team to a 3-0 win.

Shady allowed just two runners to reach second base through the first six innings while giving up three hits. Lycoming (12-6 overall, 4-4 MAC Commonwealth) had four batters single with just one moving past second.

In the sixth, however, Lycoming strung together three straight hits to score its runs. Freshman
Madison Brown (McElhattan, Pa./Central Mountain) started the rally with a single to center field before Shady singled down the line to put runners on first and second for the cleanup hitter. Senior
Morgan Kunes (Beech Creek, Pa./Central Mountain) followed with a triple down the left field line to bring in two runs before senior
Kelcie Crabb (Millmont, Pa./Mifflinburg) hit a sac fly to score Kunes.

In the seventh inning, the Mustangs (3-17 overall, 0-10 MAC Commonwealth) rallied with two outs with a pair of hits, but Shady got a groundball out to end the game.

Shady went 2-for-3 with a run and junior
Ashley Schoenstadt (Gap, Pa./Pequea Valley) also had two hits. Jasmyn Ogletree and Haley Lennon each had two hits for Stevenson.

Brooke Steinbach (0-7) took the loss, allowing seven hits and three runs while striking out three in 5 1/3 innings.

Lycoming posted 13 hits to score its 10 runs in the second game, led by three hits apiece from Shady and Kunes, as the team's first four batters accounted for nine hits, five runs and six RBI.

Stevenson scored a single run in the first inning thanks to four hits, but sophomore
Liz Nace (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) got a fielder's choice to end the inning with the bases loaded with Mustangs.

The Warriors got started in the second inning, as Nace led off with a single before a sac bunt moved her to second base. Junior
Samantha Fischer (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) followed with a single up the middle and Kline delivered an RBI single to right field to score Nace. Brown singled to center field to load the bases. After a popout, Kunes was hit by a pitch to drive in Fischer and an error helped Kline score.

Three walks and a single through the left side by Shady helped Lycoming score its four run in the third inning. In the fifth, junior
Rachel Duda (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore Area) singled to left to lead off before Fischer followed with a single to right. After a groundout, Brown delivered an RBI single down the left field line and Shady added a single to right field to score Fischer. After Shady stole second, Kunes added a single through the left side to score Brown and Crabb hit a sac fly to make it 8-1.

In the seventh, Shady singled through the left side with two outs before Kunes delivered a two-run homer for the eighth of her career.

Kunes led the team offensively, going 3-for-4 with a run, four RBI and a homer and Shady went 3-for-5 with two runs and a RBI. Brown went 2-for-4 with a run and RBI and Fischer went 2-for-3 with two runs. Erin Stephey went 2-for-4 with a run and both Jasmyn Ogletree and Nicole Dell each also added two hits for the Mustangs.

After allowing the first inning run, meanwhile, Nace allowed just two other runners to reach scoring position and she allowed just three more hits after the second inning. She improved to 2-0 with the nine-hit complete game. She struck out two.

Ogletree (1-7) took the loss for the Mustangs, allowing five hits and three earned runs in two innings. She walked two and struck out one.

The Warriors get back on the field on Sunday, April 9, when they head to Wilkes University for a non-conference doubleheader at 1 p.m.
