NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Senior
Morgan Kunes (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) opened her senior season with a double, two triples, a homer and 7 RBI to lead the Lycoming College softball team to a pair of wins to open its season on Monday, March 13, as it posted an 11-4 win over Sarah Lawrence and a 7-4 win over Wis.-Stout at the North Myrtle Beach Sports Complex.
Â
Sophomore
Cayla Treaster (Williamsport, Pa./Montoursville Area) came on in relief against Sarah Lawrence, throwing seven innings of five-hit ball to lead the Warriors to a come-from-behind 11-4 win in the season opener.
Â
The Warriors (2-0 overall) got on the board in the top of the first, as freshman
Madison Brown (McElhatten, Pa./Central Mountain) drilled a triple down the line before scoring on an error. The Gryphons (0-1 overall) responded in the bottom of the inning, scoring four runs off four walks, a hit and an error.
Â
Lycoming rallied in the top of the third, as freshman
Kayla Kline (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg Area) drew a leadoff walk before Kunes was hit by a pitch and senior

Rachel Duda (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore Area) singled up the middle to score two runs. Junior

Ashley Schoenstadt (Gap, Pa./Pequea Valley) followed with a single through the left side to score Duda and give Lycoming a 5-4 lead.
Â
The Warriors added five more runs in the fifth, with freshman
Darci Warriner (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro Area) leading the inning off with a double before two fly outs. Fischer added a single through the left side and Schoenstadt followed with another to score Warriner. Â
After the first inning, Treaster settled in, allowing just four hits and a walk in the rest of the game to earn her second career win. She allowed just two runners to reach third base during that time, and the Warriors gamely picked off a runner that rounded too far off third base off a seventh-inning double, with Crabb gunning down the runner heading back to third thanks to a perfect relay. Traster struck out two in the win.

Â
Schoenstadt went 2-for-3 with a run and two RBI and Kunes went 2-for-3 with three RBI, a double and a triple. Brown went 2-for-4 with two runs, a double and a triple and Fischer also went 2-for-4 with a run and RBI.

Â
The Warriors got on the board in the first inning, with Schoenstadt walking, reaching second on a wild pitch, taking third on a groundout and scoring on an infield single by Kline. They broke open the game in the third inning, as Brown and Kline singled before moving to second and third with a wild pitch. Kunes followed with a triple to right center, where she scored on a single through the right side by Crabb. Crabb came around to score on a sac fly by Duda to make it 5-0.
Â
The Blue Devils (1-3 overall) cut the lead to four runs in the bottom of the inning, but Lycoming got two more runs in the fourth when Kline reached on an error and Kunes sent a pitch over the fence in left center. The Blue Devils got two runs in the bottom of the fourth off three hits to make it 7-3.
Â
Stout had another chance to score in the fifth, loading the bases with one out, but Warriner caught a ball in shallow right and gunned down a runner trying to score to end the rally. They used two walks and a wild pitch to close within three runs in the seventh, but freshman reliever
Hannah Boop (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg) struck out the last batter looking to end the threat.
Â
Kline finished 2-for-4 with two runs and a RBI and Kunes went 2-for-4 with two runs, a triple, a homer and four RBI for the Warriors.
