Huff scores twice against #4 Ithaca

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Junior Garrett Huff (Corning, N.Y./Corning East) came scored two unassisted goals to lead the Lycoming College men's lacrosse team on Wednesday afternoon, March 1, but fourth-ranked Ithaca College used a 10-goal first quarter to post a 19-2 win at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.
 
The Warriors (1-2 overall) forced 18 turnovers and picked up 20 ground balls in the game, as well as winning 5-of-6 faceoffs in the second half.
 
Huff got Lycoming on the board with 10:50 left in the fourth quarter, as he drove in and fired into the right corner for his second score of the season. He added another score with 6:53 left.
 
Ithaca (1-0 overall) was led by Jack Shumway, who scored six goals, five in the first quarter. Josh Della Puca notched three goals and three assists, and Kaelan Fitzpatrick posted two goals and an assist. Jake Cotton also had three assists.
 
Senior Kyle Armstrong (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) led Lycoming with three ground balls and a caused turnover. He won 7-of-16 at the 'x'. Sophomore goalkeeper Michael Tenant (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) also had three ground balls and a caused turnover and sophomore Eric Schutta (Frenchtown, N.J./Delaware Valley Regional) added two ground balls and two caused turnovers.
 
Grant Osadchey won 16-of-17 at the 'x' for Ithaca, winning 11 ground balls. Ithaca took 44 shots in the game and grabbed 37 ground balls.
 
Tenant (1-2) finished with 13 saves in 54 minutes in net for Lycoming before junior Will McAndrew (Pleasantville, N.Y./Pleasantville) played the final six minutes. Ithaca used four goaltenders, with Jack Deragon (1-0) earning the win after making four saves in a scoreless first half.
 
The Warriors get back on the field on Saturday, March 11, when they head to King's (Pa.) for a 1 p.m. non-conference game at the Robert L. Betzler Athletic Complex.
