SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Sophomore
Andrew Ream (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) led the Lycoming College men's lacrosse team with three goals in its season-opener on Saturday, Feb. 18, but Susquehanna University used a four-goal second quarter and held on for a 12-9 win at Sassafras Field in non-conference action.

After falling behind 6-3 at the break, the Warriors (0-1 overall) rallied early in the fourth quarter to close within a goal at 10-9 with 10:14 left off a score from freshman

Garrett Huff (Corning, N.Y./Corning East), wrapping up an explosive four-goal run in a span of six minutes.

However, Susquehanna responded with two goals in the next 100 seconds, one from Erik Lanyi and one from Chet McLaughlin and the River Hawks (1-0 overall) were able to withstand Lycoming's late attempts to get closer, holding them to just two shots in the final 8:35.

Susquehanna scored twice in the opening five minutes before Ream scored Lycoming's first goal of the year with 7:25 left in the first quarter. Susquehanna took a 3-1 lead in the second quarter before freshman
Drew Collins (Victor, N.Y./Victor) scored his first career goal with 13:05 left in the second to make it a one-goal game. Susquehanna used a three-goal run from there to open up a 6-2 lead, but Ream scored off a give from freshman
Tyler Thompson (Napean, Ontario/Mother Teresa) to cut the lead to three with 19 seconds left in the half.

In the third quarter, Susquehanna scored four of the first six goals to take a 10-5 lead, but Thompson willed the Warriors back into the game, assisting on a goal by sophomore
Travis Rode (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) with 1:11 left and then on a score from Hurley with one second left to make it 10-7 heading into the final period.

Thompson added another assist to open the fourth quarter, as Ream scored on a man-up opportunity before Hurley's second score made it a one-goal game.

Thompson finished with five assists, Huff posted a goal and an assist and Hurley and Rode each had two goals for the Warriors offensively. Senior
Kyle Armstrong (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) won 13-of-19 faceoffs and added three ground balls and both Rode and senior
Jacob Eller (Durham, N.C./Riverside) each had three ground balls for Lycoming.

Chet McLaughlin led the River Hawks with three goals and Jake Smolokoff added a goal and three assists. Pierce Mead finished with five ground balls.

In net, Dylan Abplanalp earned the win for Susquehanna with 12 saves and sophomore
Michael Tenant (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) stopped 11 for the Warriors.

The Warriors get back in action when they host their home opener on Saturday, Feb. 25, against Gwynedd Mercy at 1 p.m. in the Shangraw Athletic Complex.
